Hello!

I have a problem with a HK receiver (AVR 8000).

When unplugged, memory is lost. Is it possible to fix that?

Thanks for your help.

There should be either a battery(like a watch battery) or a high density cap in it. Either way it SHOULD be able to be repaired. It would help if you had a schematic to go over.

I do not know what is inside that reciever, but the described symptoms DEFINITELY sounds like a bad battery. You can take off the cover and closely inspect the board looking for what amounts to a watch/camera disk "pill" type battery half or more hidden under an aluminum clip.

The battery is either held by friction under the clip (easily removable) or soldered to the clip or a wire. The former can be removed by carefully slipping the battery out, battery number googled and a new battery had (saving $$ taking the unit to a shop). The latter requires shop work, unless you are handy with a soldering iron on circuit boards.

It's a very common problem on HK receivers. As previously said, there is a capacitor on the front panel that's failed. It's pretty easily replaceable and available from mouser/digikey. Or just give it to the service center and they'll replace that cap for you.

Mine does that too. I ordered a replacement battery through H/K Customer Service, thinking it would be as easy to replace as a watch battery - the battery was inexpensive.

When I received it, I was dissapointed as it required soldering, so I never committed to completing the job. But hey, I'm not the adventerous type.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?
