Ghost Recon(original), any games similar to this?

O.K., so I've been playing the original for about 7-8 years now, and can't find anything similar. I tried Rainbow when it came out, but it was too different for me to get a handle on.
I've also enjoyed MOH, Far Cry, Crisis, etc., but have yet to find a updated version of this game.
From what I remember reading and hearing about GRAW, it wasn't like the original at all, so I didn't bother with it.
Basically, I enjoyed the maps/ strategy, and mostly playing the Sniper position, to give a reference as to why I still LOVE this game:p

Any feedback is appreciated:)

R6 Vegas is awesome...it takes a little getting used to but well worth it.

GRAW is similar to Ghost Recon, you just have a different HUD, and I think your squad is much smarter. It still plays as a third person shooter. I really enjoyed the game itself. I was on the fence about multiplayer, but overall I really liked it.

I think one of us is confused? Ghost Recon was a 1st person, not 3rd?

Third person would be like 'Tombraider', no?

I always thought Ghost Recon was a third person shooter. Thats what always separated it from the Rainbow Six series (which is first person) Maybe it is different on the PC, but all of the Ghost Recons I played on the XBOX and 360 have been third person.

NEVERMIND...I AM an idiot.... it is first person. But Ghost Recon 2 and Summit Strike are third person.

The Ghost Recon games were always my favorites. G.R.A.W 2 was the best in my opinion, one of my favorites for single player and multiplayer. The Rainbow Six games are awesome too, I spent a long time with Rainbow Six Vegas (not so much part 2 though) and previous Rainbow Six games. I might as well throw Splinter Cell in there as well, though not the same stye game, but still great games in my opinion. I've always loved all the Tom Clancy games up until recently.

Well, I bought COD4 last summer, and didn't really get into it at the time.

I have NOW! About 8 HOURS worth today. Still a little more intense than what I'm used to, but very entertaining.

    I still have to checkout GRAW 1 & 2. And RB6 vegas.

BTW, I was over on Gamespot, and it doesn't appear that anything has come out this year as the 'wow' games, like Crysis, and COD4 did last year.
    Or did I miss something?

A game that I loved playing and doing mods for was Battlefield 2 and the expansion packs. Still alot of people that play online and tons of different mods to choose from. A gazillion maps to play in sp or mp as well. Almost any weapon and vehicle you can think of has been made for this game. Alot of fun to play and if you like being a sniper you will be in heaven..........so many cool sniper rifles to choose from depending on the mod. I think I have a copy of my personal mod that I did for myself around here somewhere. I redid all the weapons (personal, ground, air, vehicle).sounds, ballistics, scopes, vehicle sounds etc. I also did a sound mod for the Mercenaries mod for BF2 as well. One of my favorites was the Javelin..........just loved watching the missle shoot straight up then come back down right on top of the enemy.

COD 4 rawks. I played the hell out of it when I first got it. Rented it first, then had to buy it. About a year later I sold it to pay for some other hobbies and due to less free time from my baby. Today I had to go buy it again.
