I need some help,Ive got a cheap 5.1 Sony receiver (129.00) & Im using some old small Denon spks that are 6 ohm,the receiver is rated at 100 w x5 at 8 ohm is the 6 ohm spks why I have to turn the volume up past half way for it to sound ok? I know its a small bedroom system but I thought it would be a little louder than it is,I do have a sm sub powered also.I thought the 6 ohm would draw more power out of the receiver. thanks

That's a fairly common experience with cheaper Sony receivers. They're underpowered in the surround mode. But most receivers rated 8 ohms for speaker loads will handle a 6 ohm speaker, for the most part, without causing any problems though they might not play at the HT volume you'd like.
I would take extra care not to 'clip' that Sony amp though...just to be safe. I once had a cheap Sony running with 8 ohm Sony speakers, years ago and even with that load I had the amp running at 2/3's of its power to hear reasonable volume.

Thanks, when setting the level on each spk you use the volume control which doesnt work correctly, that part is a little confusing it seems like the levels arent right but the way it wants you to do it doesnt help the level.I got some old 8 ohm spks I might try to see if that makes a difference. My HT set-up Panasonic front proj, 120 in ws screen, ATI amp,Integra 9.8 pre-pro, 2 Polk rti150, cp 1000, 4 fx 1000, Pioneer blu-ray 2 SVS sub pb 12-ultra 2, & Paragon popcorn popper. ps 3 Coaster leather HT recliners.
