Replace my Onkyo 806? Help

I have a question regarding my 806.

Although I am happy with my 806, I still have some issues. The problem is that my DTV HD box and the 806 seem to conflict with each other causing a 3 second delay with a Black screen before presenting the picture.

I think upscaling is pretty useless for me.

In retrospect, I'm wondering if I should have went with the Onkyo 805 with the Burr-brown?

Perhaps separates would be better? Finally, can I do better by adding or replacing anything?

I have a delay with my 806 switching channels too, I'm assuming it is going to be an issue whenever you do HDMI switching?? It needs time to "gather" the information from the channel? When does it do it? Does it do it when you go from a HD channel to a non HD channel or all the time? My Comcast box always takes a crap for a few seconds when I switch from a non HD channel to a HD channel and vise versa, but when I go from a HD channel to another HD channel it works fine. I don't do any upscaling in my setup though so the only time I notice a problem with a black screen with my 806 is when I change inputs on my AVR for watching a movie or something. I may be way off on this but I'm sure a real expert may be able to give you better advice.

Your exactly right, switching between HD and non-HD is a big ole' brain ****. The delay is really annoying. So I'm wondering if i can correct this annoying glitch and maybe kick a little more butt in this price range by switching out this Onkyo for something comparable or even separates?
I'll wait for the experts, they are the ones who got me into this game!

I had this problem with my 806 also. Now that I use it mostly for stereo use in the bedroom, I don't have this problem. I replaced my Onkyo 806 in my main setup with a Denon 2809 and have had no issues with it. It is harder to setup and has an inferior OSD to the Onkyo, but to me it sounds much better (keep in mind I use both the Denon and Onkyo as preamps), and has none of the nagging problems ( I have had many more issues with the 806). I am much happier with the Denon.

I hear a lot of folks talkin' about these pioneer elites. Are they any better when dealing with an Onkyo for a comparable price?

I don't have any personal experience with the Pioneer Elites, but all of the rave reviews I keep hearing about these have got me interested also. They seem to be very good sounding AVRs from what I've heard. I don't know whether they have any major issues or technical glitches or not. Hopefull someone will be able to chime in on this. I'm very happy with my Denon, but I am interested in hearing one of the Pioneers.

From what I'm reading in this forum, the elite series avrs do hdmi passthough. I don't own one but I'm sure one of the ice club members will chime in.

I know my Yamaha does a great job with switching and upscaling.

The ICE-power amp is for real. It is a major breakthrough in the quantization problems involved in Class D amplification that has made that form of amplification largely problematic and inferior except for use at lower frequencies like in a subwoofer.

The power is clean, the efficiency is near 90 percent and maintaining digital signals pure until they're output to your speakers is significant. Having said that, I've heard both the Pioneer 07 and Onkyo 875/6 series. The Pioneer is 'cleaner' sound...but having said that does not mean that 'everyone' will prefer it. There has been a lot of talk about the Pioneer amps, good reviews. I've given them my best as well, but 'subjective' preferences DO NOT DISAPPEAR simply because Bang and Olufsen have gotten past class D problematics?

I 'assure' you that some of you will prefer other receivers to the new Elite series, not because they're better or worse but because they sound "different". Since when have people on this site 'agreed' about amps, receivers, pre-amps etc. One hundred percent of the time.

I suggest 'listen' for yourself. While I like the Elite fine and think it's even a great receiver, I still like Onkyo sound even if it has less detail, maybe even because it has 'less'? Would I buy an Elite, yes. Would I throw away my Onkyo, NO!
