5jr speaker help ! Newbie
Hello there,
First off i want to say that I'm fairly new to the audio/vintage stuff....love it, and made some huge rookie mistakes !! However, I lucked out this eve and scored a pair of pristine condition 5JR.....OMG is all I have to say !
The sound that these little black beauties put out is absolutely incredible ( mine have the silver dome tweeter ) I dont know much about these speakers, but what I do know its the $55 dollars I've spent to date since my jump into this vintage audio stuff.
On that note, they sound incredible but I have a small version of OSD, and I have noticed on one of the speakers ( the lower speaker ) the screws have been removed previously and poorly put back. After closer inspection of the actual speaker ( sounds perfect ) the cone part has some slight variations in its condition, ie: small creases ! apparently it doesn't seem to effec the sound but bothers me to hell.....lol
I would like to purchase a replacement speaker, so that if one day it gets the best of I'm prepared to act...! or if someone can point in the right direction as to where to find/purchase. As well, any information about my new addition to my family would be greatly appreciated.
I have a pair of POLK AUDIO 5JR 40382 Monitor Series ( all black with silver tweeters )
Regards

congrats on your monitor 5jr's. I have never owned that model of monitor.. but have seen and heard the larger ones I own like the monitor 7's. great vintage speakers those old Polks.
can you post a picture of your speakers with the grills off? It helps up identify any problems you might be having.. some times speakers that old have had work done to them.. and sometimes the wrong speaker driver is used. just trying to make sure your 5jr's have the correct speakers inside them is all.
ALPolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Thank you for the info, I just called Polk and was all excited that they had in stock the speaker in question I was looking forward.......until the tech asked me a couple more questions and was Ahhhhhhh its the " Passive Radiator "...sorry we don't stock those anymore....
Crap !...
anybody have one for sale.

You might have more luck posting a request like that in the "Wanted to Buy" section in the flea market. Good luck, and welcome to the club."Don't forget to change your politician. They are like diapers they need to be changed regularly, and for the same reason."

Nick is parting out some 5jrs. As of last night he still had a pair of passive rads. I met him last night....he's a great guy and he'll take care of you.

Welcome to club polk.
I recommend replacing both radiators at the same time - try to keep a matching pair so they have similar wear and tear....
If you can't find a pair, I have one that I was planning on using for a franken-polk center channel, but that is probably another project I won't finish. hahahahaha
I'll check back here to see if you post that you need it.
I'll research a price. It will be cheap. -
Thanks to all for the help on the PRs for my JRs.....I found a matching pair from one of the members on POLK.
All is appreciated.
