I am currently building my home theater setup, new from scratch, in Germany.

I am doing this from Iraq but I will return in November and I want a nice system for around $2000 (what wifey said I could spend:mad:)

I have had previous home theater systems:

Harmon/Kardon AVR325 with Infinity Reference Speakers about $5000 for the whole setup but that is in the states and outdated for Blu-Ray.

My living room is rather large with high vaulted ceilings so I definitely need floorstanding w/ bookshelf surrounds.

What I Have:

JVC 40" LCD capable of 1080P...I'm an audiophile video is not as important
PS3, 80gb
PAL DVD player (for German movies)
Satellite receiver

What I am looking at:

Denon AVR1909 Receiver or HK AVR254 (The Denon is getting better reviews for what I plan to do)
Polk TSi300 Floorstanding x2
Polk TSi100 Bookshelf x2
Polk CS10 Center
Polk PSW110 Sub or Velodyne DPS10/12 (I have a Velodyne 15" for my other system and it is amazing)
Polk Atrium50 x2...for outside, obviously

I know the value of good wiring so I am going with premium Monster Cable for everything.

If you guys have any ideas that could help then feel free to let me know, also keep in mind that I can't go too big on speakers as my brother in law lives next door (it's a large duplex apartment and our living rooms are seperated by one wall).
Receiver: Marantz SR7002
Fronts: Canton Chrono 509 DC
Center: Canton Chrono 505 CM
Surrounds: Canton Chrono 502 SP
Sub: SVS PC12-NSD
TV: 40" 1080i JVC Multisystem LCD(upgrading to 50" Samsung LED)
Blu-Ray: PS3
DVD: Pioneer DV-420V (HDMI)(for PAL DVD's)
Audio/Music: MacBook Pro hooked up thru HDMI
Gaming: PS3 (oifvet0608) XBOX 360 (JAYtheVET)
Cables: Inakoustik Reference

LOL. Premium Monster Cable. That's funny. You're going to fit in well here...

As for speaker purchases... Hmm... What other brand of speakers do you have available in Germany? Or are there people you can purchase used Polk speakers from?

    Hi 0608.
I don't think you need look any further that what you are already looking at.

Except Monster - they are overpriced. Check out the stuff on-line at Monoprice, Blue Jeans Cable, Zebra Cable, Signal Cable, Element Cable and Parts Express.

    Viedersehn.

    Ender is right,

But if you're going to stay with the TSI series I'd go with the TSI-500 towers and a CS20center...sounds like you could use the greater volume of sound that would put out in that room. And the Velodyne sub is definitely better than the Polk PSW110. Definitely the DPS 12" for a room that size!

The Denon did get some great European reviews, even voted best in its class. But the Harman Kardon is a 'warmer' sounding receiver that might be better with TSIs then the Denon...? Depends on what sound you like. Have you heard both?

I am going to try to get them from the web site, I know it will be a little pricier than a store but with the euro exchange rate it will even out. I can go to Media Markt but they don't have much other than HK for mid level audio and I can't afford what the specialty stores in Germany offer. I used to work for Circuit City back in the commission days so I don't know many brands that are better than Monster for cabling, any recommendations are welcome.

The cables Mike21 lists above are all quite good and will cost you a lot less than Monster...

I have heard both and I am partial to the HK but I was reading that it has issues with audio when using Blu-Ray with the PS3 (I'm not going to get another player formy Blu-Ray's)
