Bose in Da House

Well, I have finally upgraded to Bose, that's right. I replaced my Tyler Linbrooks and SVS Plus/2 sub with a Bose Accoustimass 15 system. I plan to do some critical listening later today, but let me just say that my initial impressions are favorable. Before when a car blew up in a movie, the SVS sub would make my pants legs flap, my eyes blur and the house would shake. Now, with the Bose, I can listen to movies at full volume with barely a rumble. Now let's talk about sound quality, before with my Tyler speakers, 2 channel music sounded full and real. Now with the Bose cubes, I get that wonderful thin small cube sound. Just like being in a Best Buy store. Anyhow, I'll report back later after they have had a chance to burn in.

My biggest gripe with Bose is that the dual cube design takes weeks sometimes months to adjust and get the angles just right. If even 1° off the sound is not perfect. Most people criticize Bose simply because they don't have the system perfectly setup. Bose should really ship a laser alignment system with each unit because of this.

So did you pay list price or get a special 5% off?

Congrats on your purchase of the best all in one audio system in the world. Make sure to add some of those magic pebbles on top of each speaker. I hear it really helps the Bose system sound even more thin and as a side benefit it adds some tinniness . Heck, you have an all white system so if you get a mark on it you could just use a Tide stain remover pen on it and be done. Also like how no matter where you position the speakers or what height they are the sound is the same no matter what. Guess that is a BIG secret of the Bose brand...........just throw em' up anywhere and you're good to go. On a side note, you can always get the system lacquered and make it all fancy......you would be the envy of Bose owners everywhere.;)

I am having some troubles keeping the Bose speaker stands straight due to the weight of my MIT shotgun speaker cables connected to the back of the cubes. But other than that they are breaking in nicely.

Now we KNOW you are lying. Everyone knows that Bose speakers don't need to "break in". They sound just as bad straight out of the box as they will after hundreds of hours of playing.

I would love to see a picture of that...the network boxes are probably larger than the cubes. :D

I'll be interested to hear your report after breaking it in. I've been thinking about doing the same thing for a while now. I get so tired of "feeling" explosions, etc. when watching a movie. And with music I long for the days of not noticing if the recording is good or not.

LOL.... you almost had be there for a minute, but then I realized that it was April 1. How silly of me to think that somebody would buy something as crappy as MIT Shotgun cables.

I actually purchased a house and the other owner left his Bose speakers ceiling mounted. The ceilings are 12 feet high so I guess they stay until I can borrow a tall enough ladder.

So, I honestly (not April Fools Joke or anything) will be rocking BOSE Acoustimass cubes in my HT setup for the next few days / weeks. Will report back. With it being such high ceilngs, not sure better speakers would even make much of a difference. Might just leave the damned BOSE. Would I have to turn in my Polk card if I did that? And I've got a full 5 channel Lsi setup boxed up. What has the world come to?

I've never seen a Bose April Fools joke, so this gets an A+ for originality and another A+ for the supposed angry response flame! :)

I have more than a few friends that own Bose. Its the right product for the right consumer. I'm (and many of you) just not the right consumer.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

Good april fools joke! I like to trash bose as often as possible. Way too many people pretending to be happy with bose setups. Missing out on good sound cause they are overly concerned about WAF.

If WAF is such a big deal why don't more people just get nice stereo setups with floorstanders that don't take up much room at all.

bose setups are like fisher price basketball hoops. Hell they are even plastic just like them.

So, unfortunately my comments above were not a joke. I actually hooked the Acoustimass speakers up last night in my new place. They were already mounted and all I had to do what hook them up to my receiver.

At first, I was optimistic. They were set up in logical spots and with good equipment, I've heard some really bad speakers sound pretty decent. But, I sound discovered a complete lack of everything that makes movies, tv, and music enjoyable. No imaging, no soundstage, no mid-bass, nothing. Voices sounded tinny and shrill. Actually, everything sounded tinny and shrill. I'm back to the drawing board.

My subwoofer did all it could running hot and crossed over at 120hz to try to make up for the cubes' lack of all sub 300hz frequency. However, it was empty, hollow, and terrible, even for just basic TV watching.

This is not an April Fool's joke: I actually like Bose's computer speakers (their Companion 2, 3, and 5 series). The Companion 2's, in particular, for $100, are decent sounding for $100 computer speakers --- a good choice if you just need some portable powered speakers, I use them when I want to show a video presentation and I don't want to lug around some larger speakers.

I have listened to Bose's home theater speakers in actual home theater setups and they, however, sound absolutely awful. Tinny, no midrange, no accuracy, etc. Some of these same speakers actually sound better in those canned Bose demos they have set up in stores --- I wonder if they've carefully doctored those tracks to make the speakers sound better than they are?
