I woke up this morning to a nasty tear in a midrange driver for my RT1000i. Damn cats..:supermad: Must have jumped up and put it's f@#$ing claws through it. I usually cover the speakers up and in a drunken stuper forgot to do so last night.

What should I do? Anyone have a midrange hanging around? Do I try and get one from Polk?

does anyone else have cats in their house? I'm thinking of getting a cat again.. but don't want the cat to rip up the grille covers. what should I do? really don't want to get the cat declawed.. that's not really an option.

sorry about your torn driver dcarlson. let me know how much a new driver costs, incase i ever need a new one.

Get them a scratch post right from the outset and it doesn't take any longer to teach them not to sctrach the speakers than it does the chairs. When they do grab them and take them to the post. They soon figure it out. Oh, and shouting at them or giving them a smack doesn't work well, they don't go for tone of voice as much as dogs do. When they do something wrong(like start chewing on your arm) pick them up, look straight at them and hiss, with lots of teeth showing, they understand that. A light clip just across the top of the ears annoys them too. Reinforces the hissing without hitting them, they are pretty snooty and tend to do just the opposite if you hit them.
    cheers

I have always owned cats. First rule for a new cat is DECLAW.
In the early days of my rt1000p's they sratched up the bottom partion of the speakers because they were made of a faberic material but never any speaker damage. My cats are not allowed in my dedicated HT unless under supervision.;)

My wife loves cats, we only have two but she would rather have ten. The simple solution is to set up your home theater in a room with a door and a lock.
It was either that or get them declawed and she had a fit when I mentioned getting them declawed. Plus you don't get cat hair all over your gear.

Just a quick one to make you guys laugh. My wife's one cat (we have two, Pickles and Jerry), well, Pickles puked in my satellite receiver and we couldn't figure out why no regular TV. When it went in for repair they said a "liquid" had been poured into the receiver. I actually ended up buying a whole new receiver. They haven't used the Polks for scratch poles yet but they destroyed the entire back of a couch in the rec room. I always root for the dog when he is loose in the house, but he's far too slow.

I like cats, my roomate has two. They don't scratch at my speakers at all. The problem is when they jump up on them. I usually keep a squirt gun around. When they're doing something they shouldn't be, a good squirt always sets them right.

I always cover up the speakers with a carpet on each that covers 3/4 of the whole speaker. Forgot to do it. What a mistake.

I'm going to take a picture of my driver and post it. It looks like a freakin car crash. It's really hurts to look at it.

Scott, that's a good pic. I was listening to Blind Melon the other night. There's a song that begins with a cat whaling in the background and the cats were going crazy, wondering where it was coming from. It was pretty cool.

I want to get into large exotic hybrids (bobcats) but I have to wait till I get a bigger house. I have always been a cat lover.
