Monitor 10A's

Okay I damaged one of my 6.5" drivers on my Monitor 10's and so I tried disconnecting just the bad driver until I could get it replaced. This made the entire channel turn off, I'm guessing it has something to do with being hooked up in series. So I hooked it back up but haphazardly. I just loosely connected it back. It worked for a while. Now it went out again and I looked at all the connections and now it is as if the whole cabinet is blown/off. Any idea what could have happened? Fuse? Crossover?

Well its not the fuse, it only protects the tweeter. Should not be the x-over unless you jerked on the internal wire.
How did you damage the driver?
Write down the PN for the driver and either order one from POLK CS or look for one in our For Sale section or on E-Bay

I think I underpowered them with only an Onkyo TX-8555. Rated 100wpc but likely is more like 70. The cone is just starting to separate from the voice coil so it was making a crackle at times. I already have a replacement MW6500 from another pair of 10A's. I am waiting to install it until I get my Adcom amp so they can be properly powered.

Actually I noticed the damaged driver is now completely disconnected from the cone so that must be it. If you have some 10's make sure you give them plenty of power.

I'm running my monitor 10b's in my garage rig with a 30wpc rotel integrated amp without any problem. Just be careful with the volume knob. The monitor 10s are very efficient.

I tried hooking up the new driver, and still no sound. Is it possible that while I had both channels hooked up but the left one not playing because of a disconnected driver, that something blew? Possible that even the left channel is blown completely out on my receiver?

Well it's not the amp. Both channels work on the amp. I'll open the left 10 and make sure all connections are good.

Got it. I just went over all of the connections and have the new 6.5 in. I'm not sure what connection it was.

Some say you can power the 10's with as little as 30wpc. Are you serious? What kind of music is this for? I know that 70wpc is not enough for anything with any kind of bass. I have damaged 1 or more drivers for my 10's on volume 60/80 on my Onkyo TX-8555 and coming from my iMac at about 90% pre-volume. They are no where near damaging to my hearing like some claim with about 100 watts. I could see this playing some flute music or something but for bass they need a good 200 IMHO. I'm working on that right now. Looking for an Adcom GFA-555.

Something is going on inside that cabinet. You don't get any sound at all from that speaker?

    Cool. nevermind.

All watts are not equal. Anyone that tells you they are, well.....

You have some distortion getting in the mix, probably from the source and getting amplified by your receiver. Does it have pre-outs? Do you have another source?

Well all my music is on my iMac (newish one). It only has a regular mini-jack out which I have used a Monster Cable mini-to-RCA to some StreetWires RCAs then to the Onkyo. My speaker wire is not the greatest. It is actually just 16gauge electrical wire :/

Do you think it is necessary to buy a better sound card with RCA outs? I have thought of distortion before. It is definitely a possibility. I was thinking of an M-Audio external card which would give me HQ output RCAs 24-bit, 96 khz. For now I just try to keep the volume low.

Also my tunes are not ripped on my computer in some crappy LQ format, but either LAME mp3 in 320 or v0 or else lossless like FLAC. Hopefully this means something to others lol. I know it is not the media but probably the wires/amp.
