Which brands are good bang-for-the-buck brands for soldering irons and dremel kits? Anyone have any favorite brands or other tools when they DIY?

Also seeking Forstner bit suggestions... as in from who?

If I were to do it all over again, I would have gone straight to an adjustable temp Weller.

I've throughly enjoyed this solder station and have no regrets buying it..

The digital readout is very nice to have.

Weller is by far the most used brand in the electronics hand soldering.
WES51 and WESD51 are the ones that (IMHO) give the best bang for the buck.
We have them everywhere at work, different types.

    Here is an example.

Personally, I am using Solomon. If I remember, the model is SL-20 (with LEDs). SL-30 is the one with digital readout.

I think if you will stick with a good brand name (Dewalt comes to mind), you should be all right. I have Mastercraft at work (in-house Canadian Tire store brand, not the best quality) and even that one has been working great for years.

umm... if you want a Dremel, buy a Dremel. Pick any kit that suits your fancy.

Agree with the "buy a real Dremel" post, I have had other brands and they have long since died. Both my corded and battery Dremels are real fine tools and have held up very well.

Far as Forstner bits, I'd suggest checking out mlcswoodworking.com. Great service, quick and free shipping. Also a good source for router bits and tables. I got their router table top and have been pleased with it so far.
