It's hard to find the vintage Polk stuff here in the Boise area, but I'm happy to say I've just bought a pair of 1.2's from the original owner and didn't have to head out of town to get them. Cosmetically they are close to perfect with the exception of what looks like about a 4 inch by 2 inch crayon mark on the cloth on the side of one of them. Everything original including spikes, interconnect, wall braces, and manual (no boxes). Package deal with a Nakamichi PA-5 II amp, ADCOM GTP-500 tuner/pre-amp, Nakamichi BX-100 cassette deck, Dual CS 505-2 turntable, Yamaha CDC 555 disc changer, Sennheiser cordless headphones, and ADCOM GFS-3 speaker selector. And the best part? $1000 for all of it. Sure hope it all works :D

Got the speakers, pre-amp and amp hooked up this morning and everything's working great. After spending countless dollars on newer equipment, I have to say my ears have never been more satisfied than with this 20 year old equipment. Funny how that works.

Congratulations,, of course you must realize that you are on a slippery slope,,once the SDA bug bites you, there is always tweeter upgrades,, caps and resistors,, source,, pre,, amp,,, cables,, power cords,,and thats just solid state,, we have not got into tubes yet.;) Seriously though, have fun and enjoy.

Has your wife approved those hulking tower 1.2s ? They'd be a definite no-go with my wife, fortunately I don't have a room large enough to utilize them anyway. And she thinks that SRS2s are BIG ! Enjoy em !!!:)

That Nak PA5II is an excellent, excellent amp. That particular Adcom pre amp isn't doing you nay favors however.

Nice snag......do some more experimenting with the Nak; it's a Nelson Pass STASIS circuit and is quite nice to listen to.

Thanks for the tips. No wife = no worries about what I spend money on. If she were still around I'd just remind her that size matters. I'm not familiar with the GTP-500 pre-amp. Some years ago I had the first model of the PA-5 with an NAD 1155 pre-amp, which I ran with a pair of 2.3TL's and really liked. I may do some snooping for one of those and am open to suggestions. Anyone ever try running something like a VTL 2.5 with the SDA's and similar amplification?

Make sure that cabinet isn't sticking out between the speakers. It will screw up the dimensional array. Looking sweet!!!

Great pickup. Hope you had help bringing those bad boys in your house. I was lucky, I didn't have any steps. Just a thought, you may want to look at Luxman gear. It sounds sweet with these speakers. Check out Luxman R-117 recievers or M-117 amps. You got a sweet package deal.

The Nak PA5II is more than capable of running those SDA's and I'd take that everyday and Sunday over the Luxman gear...............the Luxman gear is certainly nice. I sold Luxman side by side with the Nak gear and IMO the Nak is the better piece, especially for SDA's as I sold those too at the the same time.

    Either way ENJOY!

Why don't deals like this fall into my lap? Not that I did badly on my 1C's, but man I dream of having 1.2's some day...
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I will respectfully disagree about the Luxman gear. I have heard both and I will take the Luxman any day but as you said both are fine units. I am sure our friend is enjoying his new set up, I know I would. Either way it is all good.
