I always read our local small town newspaper's want ads and today spotted an ad that says "moving sale lots and lots of classic rock LP's for sale" by appointment. I phone and since I wasn't working today and book an appointment. Well holy spindle hole Batman!! This guy has between 8 and 10 thousand rock records for sale. His entire basement is dedicated to vinyl. He has nearly everything. I held in my hands today a brand new still in shrink original copy of the Beatles Yesterday and Today with the extremely rare butcher block cover!!! Not for sale that one but almost anything else. I even got one of my most sought after wish list items today. Best part is he has a huge section (at least 1500) of $2.00 titles and it was there I found my wish list record (Canadian band Moxy's first LP with Tommy Bolin of Deep Purple and James Gang fame playing lead guitar but not credited on the LP). Almost all of them in excellent fully playable condition. Picture disks, coloured vinyl, super rare first issues. Vinyl heaven!! I even got a VG++ copy of the Beatles Rubber Soul for $8.00. And then it hit me.......this must be what it's like at George Grand's house.......

The Jackpot! nice. God, havent had or heard vinyl for years. See its' really coming around again. Has current technology really enhanced vinyl play, that its something to seriously consider? I have kind of laughed it off, but enlighten me, im feeling nostalgic, and would like to hear your tech impressions'.:D

New technology has little to do with it. I currently have 3 turntables that were built in 1972, 1974, and 1975 and can be purchased for around 300 to 800 used. I have 6 cartridges and two of the best sounding are 35 years old. They don't build them like that any more unless you get into the 5K range, and a few $20 tweaks to the old stuff puts them into the same league. Record cleaning advances are perhaps where technology has contributed the most.

It was a Canadian band so I thought no way George would have it. But for a buck I'll take it and the kids get some cash.

Today's turntables, tonearms, and cartridges make side by side cd to vinyl comparison's unfair. I have a 20th anniversary copy of Jennifer Warnes' Famous Blue Raincoat (widely considered an audiophile tour de force for exceptional sound quality) on cd and an original 20 year old copy on vinyl and on the same pre and amp the vinyl totally blows it away. Much more dynamic and lively. More of that "you are there" feeling. Detail and richness far beyond the the cd. I have a very hard time listening to cd's anymore on my home rig. That said I don't have a super high end cd player or a dedicated DAC. I use my Pioneer Elite DV-79Avi for cd duties. Howver old **** scratchy vinyl still sounds like crap. Must be clean and requires much more fussing but the rewards are huge.

Thanks guys' for the info. always remember how excited i was when i saved enough money on my own for my first turntable at 14. Album cover art seemed like a nice bonus to the tunes when you would buy a record. Think i will look into this a little more. Thanks again.:)
