A day of sadness in the Bay Area

Even though the weather is great today, I can't help but sense a depressing feeling since I woke up today. As some of you may have heard, 4 Oakland Police officers were killed in the line of duty last Saturday trying to arrest a suspect. One of them is from the town where I live. Today is the funeral for the 4 OPD officers, being held at the Oakland Oracle Arena. The entire OPD will be at the funeral while 15 other law enforcement agencies will patrol the streets of Oakland. On the way to work in the morning, I saw several caravans of police vehicles from other police departments making their way to the funeral. Here's a link to some photos and the story as carried by the San Francisco Chronicle.....

DAMN. That's why I stayed out of the Oakland area when I went to Berkeley. And even Berkeley is relatively dangerous.

    Terrible
I have to read the entire police report to see how something like this could happen. I'll bet this guy should have been in prison/kept in prison and not out on the streets.

Rough day... there are multiple LEO's that frequent this forum, and for all of us, hearing about these types of tragedies are very hard. It is hard enough when you hear of one dying in the line of duty, even more so when multiple lives are taken by the same person.

We lost one of our own in the Bay area last year, and LEOs from multiple agencies joined in a long search for her, lasting weeks. We were very grateful for that support.

It is heartening to see the citizens of those communities showing support for the slain officers, as I was angered by the reports of taunting of police in the immediate aftermath of the shootings.

Very sad indeed, I had to read the whole story, follow some links as I havent heard this on the news out here. If he was in the sister's apt why didnt she warn them of this guy having a firearm or something? Lock her **** up too. This is very tragic.

The suspect's sister was arrested a couple of days ago for a 2008 drug charge. The suspect was also just linked to the rape of a 12 year old

So two cops pull him over for a traffic violation, he kills them, then kills two other cops, he gets killed FINALLY and it's genocide? Am I missing something? WTF?

Anyone want to start colonizing the moon? This place is starting to suck...

Unfortunately this will never end. Theres been a double standard in this country for a long time and is only getting worse as far as race go's. Too bad, too many ignorant people out there, that we cant co-exist. Those Oakland cops' are hero's. Hopefully this can be used for future Oakland PD recruits in training to avoid future tragedys, and dispose properly of trash such as this wacko.

It's tough these days to want to be a cop, knowing you have one hand tied behind your back.....much the same for our people in the military also.

They had the guy who organized that protest on 'The Factor' tonight. Couldn't watch it. I was afraid I'd kick the t.v.

They thrive on fanning the flames of hatred.I just want to be president for one day.I would set a worlds record for the amount of executive orders I would hand down.
