When I calibrate with audyssey, which does an excellent job in my room, it displays the + or - dbs for each speaker that makes them all level at the listening position.

When listening to Dolby Digital, DTS, DD True HD, or DTS HD are they mixed level wise so that when I turn my receiver volume to 0 (after the calibration) I get exactly reference volume (85 db average) during playback. I typically watch movies at -15 to -10 which is fairly loud even in my large room.

I am just curious if it is an industry standard or completely in the hands of the mixer.
HT Setup: Onkyo 706; Rotel RB-1075; Rti A3; Csi A6; Fxi3's

2 CH: Squeezebox Touch; Dared SL-2000a; GoldenEar Triton 5 or Lsi9's; Parasound 2125; SVS SB12-NSD; Music Hall DAC 25.2

That sounds about right from listening position but you may need an SPL meter to veriify.

Aud is just balancing your speakers and trying to correct the room acoustics best it can. Results are best with a well treated room, LP, speakers and properly using AUD during calibration (seating positions method, no noise in room and so forth)

Audyssey does NOT set your receiver so 0 = reference level because the mics aren't consistent enough to say x voltage level = x dB. It does, however, work with their generalized mic compensation so that the levels are matched. It just won't set them to reference. You need a SPL meter to do that.

Reference level is an industry standard for theaters and mixing, but is way too loud for most home environments due to the smaller room size. While the important thing is that all channels are balanced to the same level, setting your AVR so that 0 = reference gives you just that - a point of reference.
