While on my son Seth's field trip to the New Castle, Henry County, Indiana Historical Society, I took these pics that some dude made over 35 yrs out of over 55000 separate pieces of hundreds of different types of wood.

That's what happens when you don't have a wife...
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

I have more, but the file sizes are too large. I kept switching between VGA and 8MP.

Needless to say, other than the obsession, his work is/was impeccable. It is hard to fathom the dedication, much less the quality of the work.

He was a veteran and some of the work is done with metal from some of his medals. IIRC, it was General Omar Bundy, but I'm not sure.

Whether you care for the style or not, you gotta admit that it took some serious skill to make.

Wonder what Jesse would charge to refinish that?

I wonder how well it would burn.

The guy definitely didn't have kids. In my house, my kids would've been drawn to it like a moth to a flame ... itching to leave a cup ring or wanting to see if the finish will hold crayon.

You maybe right, I don't know for sure. Some say its dust on the lens some say its spirits who knows for sure. I feel knowing they can be in pictures that aren't seen by a naked eye are souls lost in between states. Souls which where killed over died on their own.

I am actually more interested in encountering spirits again. To think about it, maybe the orbs made the desk? no?

That piece is what veneering is all about. That's hundreds, or if you say so, thousands of tiny pieces of veneer of dozens of different kinds of wood cut into place.
It's called marquetry, as the woodworkers here already know, and that's some serious OCD-dementia veneering.

That's what it takes to be a woodworking god. Which I am most assuredly, not.
