Vintage Polk vs new?

While reading the post about the 5jrs, I thought about the good sound I've experienced with the vintage polks. My question is this: How would the vintage polks7s,10s,11s,12s etc.) stack up to today's speakers? Especially the ones with the upgraded tweets and x-overs? I've REALLY been pleased with mine(11t with RDO and xover upgrade). I haven't heard any speakers in any of the big box stores that sound as good to me. I know there are better speakers, but how much would they cost ya? I've haven't had the pleasure of listening to them all, but I sure everyone else has experienced the same joy when they stumbled onto their first pair of vintage polks. I would just like to hear some of the people have owned many other "good" speakers and polks and can make a fair comparison. I await the knowledge:D

    Well most mass marketed speakers need a little help also in the XO department. The LSI's are real nice for the money, but the XO's are lacking like most other speakers in their price range. Vintage Polk's is what made me fall in love with real good music.

    Newer speakers today till you get into the $1000 and up kind of suck IMO, they just sound hollow and unnatural, I know there are some that do sound good under $1000 but generally no. I do know this nothing I bought new for the same amount of money would come close to my 2.3tl's.

    As being a bit too young when the vintage stuff came out I wasn't really aware of there sound or of any write ups on them.

    As I got older and got into the RT's I always thought that I was missing something.

    Even older I got the LSI's. Great sounding ( haven't done the XO update).

    Still older I got the 7A's.

    I have heard my bro's 10A's and SDA 1c's.

    I wish I knew about the sound of the vintage stuff much earlier. I would have just bought them and wouldn't have had to search so long to find a sound that I like so much.

    Now I think I'm on the right track. Kinna of an expensive road to get there but fun just the same.

    After owning LSi9s and LSi7s, I'll stick with Vintage Polks. Not saying that the LSis aren't really nice speakers, but I can get a really nice pair of SDA for less and refurbish them, if needed and put a **** eatin grin across my face and listen for hours and hours with no fatigue.

    Same can be said for Mon 7s, LS90s 70s, 50s. Several of the RTAs and early RTs(5000s,3000ps,2000ps). The blue coned RTis just didn't do it for me for 2-channel, but were fine for HT. The new RTias are supposedly a good step up from the RTis, but I haven't found anywhere local to demo them.
