Post your experience: Adding sub to LSi15's

I have LSi15's powered by an Emotiva RPA-2. The bass is certainly very acceptable, but I'm tempted to get a sub. I listen to 70% music 30% HT and I'm leaning towards the Rythmik FG15.
I'm looking for other LSi owners' experience with adding a sub to your setup and how much improvement you got, was it worth it,etc... thanks!

With 4 LSI15s, I turn my sub, PSW1000, off when I listen to music, 2 channel or surround. In fact I only turn it on when I want crazy, hit-me-in-the-chest bass for some action movie. Of course, you need to have your speakers set to large, and run the sub off the front pre-amp outs for this to work.
Do whatever you think makes the best sound for your ears.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

I have LSI 15's with dual PSW 150's. I like alot of bass and I relieze that the 150's are rather old but I like the sound.
They are way too much for movies and usually have to turn them down.
If you like bass go for it. They make a huge diffence. -
For movies, a sub is a must. For music, 15's are quite good in most rooms but on a large room they definitely benefit from a sub. I am running SVS PCU with mine, lots of sound pressure for movies and it blends very well for music as well. Just remember to calibrate inputs separately from 2ch and HT, movie SPL is way too much for music.

The LSi15s only go down to 22 hz .... so you are missing 4 hz of audible range .... so adding a good sub can get you down lower into the 18-20 hz range if you choose well giving you that added depth to explosions that may make a nice difference.
I use LSi25s and I find when I watch a movie turning on my seperate sub enhances the sound of action/explosions.

Explosions so you must be talking about movies and many of them go much, much lower than 18Hz. I believe Batman Begins has 2Hz scene and The Incredibles has 5Hz scene. I doubt my sub could produce those but there is plenty of material in the movies it can produce that those LSi15's or LSi25's wouldn't even come close to. -
Mod the 15's. The bass will be lots less boomy.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

This may not be an option but get the 9s instead of the 15s and then get the sub!
At least in my room the 15s were only OK for the lows.Analog Source: Rega P3-24 Exact 2 w/GT delrin platter & Neo TT-PSU Digital Source: Lumin T2 w/Roon (NUC) DAC: Denafrips Pontus II Phono Preamp: Rega Aria MK3 Preamp: Rogue RP-7 Amp: Pass X150.8 Speakers: Joseph Audio Perspective 2, Audio Physic Tempo Plus Cables: Morrow M4 ICs & Audio Art SC-5 ePlus, Shunyata PCs Misc: Shunyata Hydra Delta D6, VTI rack, GIK acoustic panels -
I paired my 15 with Rel STORM III. The quality, not quantity, of the mid-bass improved a lot. Ben is on to something, as far as modding the XO on the 15. One of these days, I might try that.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I found that thread and read through it... might be a bit beyond my comfort level with these brand new speaks!SystemLuxman L-590AXII Integrated Amplifier|KEF Reference 1 Loudspeakers|PS Audio Directream Jr|Sansui TU-9900 Tuner|TEAC A-6100 RtR|Nakamichi RX-202 Cassette -
FWIW, I tried integrating an SVS into my 2 channel (tower speakers) and did not like the results in the long run. I was able to run sweeps and get a very good "curve" but bass was just a little too over-abundant. I didn't care for the flabby mid-bass, and regardless of the level setting I couldn't get it ironed out to my satisfaction. I later sold the sub.
Music is priority 1 in my system, as it appears with yours--so I felt this might be helpful to mention. If you are fussy about accurate bass reproduction, your probably gonna have to spend big bucks on a sub that will integrate accurately (Velodyne?).Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2
