Darn it all, Pauly , I thought you were one of those nice people that stop by from time to time with super deals for us to benefit from (you bought yours from one of them, right?), and here you are not even selling one!

I'll just have to wait for the next nice person, but the threads keep vanishing before I even get a chance to contact them with my credit card details ... and they probably need my SSN to run a credit check, but that's fairly standard procedure with a new cell phone contract. Maybe you want to sell me the one you just broke? I'll give you my SSN and credit card details if you like.

As for the shambles. It is pretty impressive, but some people were complaining just last week that things were getting boring, now that all the Christmas hype, what receiver for my LSi's, and Emotiva threads had all calmed down. Now things are exciting!

I gotta say, that's quite a level of commitment to a device to take days off of your normal internet habits just to focus on jailbreaking.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Got it for 60.00 and got it to work on T-Mobile for free. I can remote from my phone to my house or from my house to my phone, enabled MMS send/receive, Got Video Recording, lots of personalized tweaks and thats just 2 days after getting it. Oh and my data plan is only 5 extra bucks a month. No its not 3g, but with Edge via T-mo its 1-2G speeds. Besides Wi-Fi is everywhere. Whats not to like about it?

Im an ex Motorola Hacker so im quite up to speed on the general knowledge and how to's. Really only took me 2 hours to jailbreak and unlock. The rest was reading up on whats what, whats coming up, T-Mobile specifics etc... Most of the tweaks and hacks you can do right from your iphone via Cydia (The hackers app store) with a couple of taps. Besides everyone needs a break from this place from time to time.

    It's a Mac.

Besides, my Blackberries do all of that and then some, on a 3G network too. My AT&T phone is provided by work and my data plan from Sprint on my personal phone is all inclusive and I'm not limited by Mac on what software I can use. I have an SSH client on my Blackberry that allows me to remote in to my servers at work without ever cracking my laptop open. I can also use my Blackberries as wireless modems and get 3G speed for the laptop anywhere I can get a cell signal. I'm just not a fan of the iPhones. I can get a more capable piece of equipment for the same price, or less if I take advantage of the rebates and I have much more freedom with it.

I will give it to the iPhone that the interface is snazzy. But after seeing so many dirtball people with funked up phones from just texting and holding it up to their ears, I can't imagine the iPhone being all that attractively clean after a few months of use.

Oh boy, more iPhone vs other phones talk! This hasn't been beaten into the ground over the past two years.

Anyone who claims the iPhone is the most technologically advanced phone around is an idiot. I own one, I like it because for most of the things it does, it does them well. And it's a moderately functional gaming platform on top of it. If I were a real "power" user, it probably wouldn't fit my needs, but for my day to day **** around it's pretty much perfect.

And I do have an SSH client as well as a VNC client that I've used on occasion.

I'm not trying to get into a feud. You asked me why I didn't like the iPhone and why I was ribbing you about the iPhone. I told you why. You didn't like my answer.

Personally, I don't believe that if I am paying that much for a phone, I shouldn't get told where I can buy a plan from nor how I can use my phone. I just don't agree with it.

My Blackberry came with no such restrictions and while the iPhone may be a bit easier to use, my Blackberry has more capability both natively and with expansion programs. I don't have to have an Apple monkey replace my battery when I need a new one, I don't need to worry about what I can and can't run and I can choose literally any carrier out there and get a Blackberry from them. Nobody tells me that I'll have an iPhone and I'll like it. They said "Well, here's a Blackberry. It's pretty cool." I got to decide if I like it and I like it better. You like your iPhone. You just had to do alot more work and violate licensing agreements and contract terms to get what you wanted. That doesn't make it bad or good or me or you cool or not. You just want what you want, I want what I want.

All I did was give you a zinger. But I'll take it back.

Congratulations or the purchase of your iPhone and the successful hacking of your new phone. I certainly hope for your sake that it doesn't get "bricked" by the next firmware update 'cause I heard the fix is expensive.

I can't find the name in the installed applications. I have the update package link at home. When I get home, I'll post the link for you 'cause I can't remember the name. I downloaded it in like December of 2007.

3.0 is still in Beta. Its out to DEV's as we speak and is still aways from being approved/pushed by Apple. The 3.0 beta that was leaked is still buggy cuz well its a BETA but is possible to downgrade. Thanks for the good Karma that my phone wont get bricked but i am no fool as my last Moto i had i bricked and was a pain to Test Point and get back to life. IF you know what your doing and have your backups there is really no reason for it to be expensive or cost anything for that matter other than time and knowledge of what not to do next time.

All the Carriers, T-Moblie, ATT etc lock there phones down and only allow what they want on there like branding, cant do this cant do that etc. Why not hack it and mod it to do what YOU want it do as long as it can be done. Kinda like Burger King Have it your way????

Needs to be jailbroke then you can download an app via Cydia. 3.0 is "suppose" to add this along with MMS texts but it will prob be a while till Apple pushes that out.

Actually, if I thought I could get an iPhone like Pauly, for just $60, and then hack it myself to work with T-mo (or other SIM cards from Europe when travelling - does it have a SIM card slot?), I might be interested! It's a cute phone, does some things well from what I have tried (which is limited to a few minutes on somebody else's phone ), has a tiny charger when packing for travel, and fools people into thinking that I might be cool (well, for the first five minutes, that is) ... but I'm not going to pay the normal retail price for it and then have to change to AT&T which would instantly add $30 every single month compared to what I currently pay with T-mo. That would be $350 extra a year in my case. (The phone itself is actually available as a refurb from AT&T for about $100.)

3.0 is already jailbroken, the dev's are just working on the PwnageTool (the cool little GUI that jailbreaks) to create a custom IPSW to avoid the baseband update. So you can update if you can get your hands on (Google) Its just buggy and will re-lock your phone.

Other than the new software 3.0 release for June/July launch, is there any update on the unit itself, such as battery life extended, etc.?

The next release version may be IT for me. Not convinced yet, though.

No, or they would already be in the Flea Market.

My buddy upgraded to the new one so i hassled him for this one until he caved. Feeding him beers helped out a little too :)

They almost offered the iPhone with NO contract. Would have costed arm and lef

I only buy unlocked phones, it makes life easier. The last two motos I bought were both unlocked. I had the first one, a razr v3i with itunes on it for 3 years before I accidentally busted it last weekend. I'm my sisters old phone as a back up. It's a slvr and I don't like it much, but it works much better then the POS nokia that came with the sim card for free.
