SDA 2A and SDA SRS 2

Ok, so I finally got my SDA 2A (I think) set up after the looooong road trip yesterday to get these.

Let's just say I am absolutely thrilled by these speakers and I can hardly imagine listening to anything else (as I am listening to music from my computer lol). They are awesome. Just... awesome. Listening to Alicia Keys and Simon and Garfunkle on these makes me want to shout in joy (and I did). And I don't even have the IC between the two. I really want that cable now... Lol.

As for my SDA SRS 2, these and the SDA cable as well as a Monster speaker wire pair (I know, Monster, but they are better than the cheap speaker wires from our old Sony HT setup) are stuck in my dad's car until he gets back from work AND I get back from school.

So I will test these out and post pics later tonight. I am pretty excited to hear the SDA SRS 2 due to reviews saying they are better than the SDA 2A.

EDIT: I only have one SDA cable. Anyone know where I can get another?

Alright, I had a further listen. And I finally got my SDA SRS 2 set up as well. I think I definitely need a change in XO and tweeters. It's fairly smooth for the most part, but there are some places where I kinda wince at the higher frequencies.

Another issue I have is the lack of space. I don't think I am getting the full SDA effect with the limited room and rather rectangular spaces within the rooms (as opposed to a large square). So I am sad about that.

However, overall, they sound like the best speakers I'll have in a long time (especially at $300 for SDA SRS 2 and $150 for SDA 2).

Here are the SDA 2A (I think? Correct my model number if I'm wrong.).

Now, note the top that has screwholes that seem to be stripped and the grills that seem to be a bit ripped. Anyone got recommendations on how to fix (should I just drill a new screw hole?) or find new ones of either of those (just buy new grills?)?

P.S. Now I can't wait to get my hands on that Monitor 7 pair, if it is still there by the time I can grab them.

Remember to try to keep the SRS 2 at least three feet from the side walls for the full SDA effect.

Ok, more listening has been accomplished.

I have a question: If the SDA effect doesn't fully work, would that muffle the mids? I don't know whether it is a contrast to the tweeters (highs) or it's just bad drivers, but to me, the mids sound less clear than the bass or the highs. However, as I mentioned, I can't have the full SDA effect going on because I don't have enough room in the house (my dad built a mini-storage room in the corner of the living room... so bad). Or perhaps I need some XO modding?

I am hoping the lack of SDA effect is muffling the mids, otherwise, I think the SDA 2A might have sounded better. I am going to check and set up the SDA 2A and test listen to it again.

Make sure they are at least an inch or two in front of anything that sits between them. A tv, rack, cabinet will affect the dimensional array. So, make sure there is nothing protruding between the speakers and that they are precisely parallel.

    Break out the measuring tape.

I had my SRS2s 8ft apart, 8" from back wall and nowhere near a side wall...at least not within 5 ft.

Yeah the further away from the walls and your tv the better. Is this model video shielded? If not, you definitely want to move away from the tv a bit. Good luck.

Did you ever get this cleared up? Picked up a pair of 2A's and seem to have the same muffle issue.

Welcome to Club Polk. You might have to wait a while before you get a reply from jlandbl. His last visit here was in 2009.

Muffled is sort of a vague term. If you can describe in more detail the problem you are having I'm sure someone here will be able to help. Your first step should be to make sure all the mids and tweeters are working properly.

In my experience the SDA not working doesn't cause my speakers to sound muffled. With the interconnect cable disconnected I lose the SDA effect but the speakers sound fine.

My experience with 2.3TL's was that upgrading to the new tweeters made a huge improvement in sound quality. Before the upgrade they seemed sluggish with "muffled" mid bass. I was surprised that tweeters could correct this.

Yes, I did all the recommended mods and deleted the sda (outside) tweeters. All of the mods did wonders and I really like deleting the sda tweeter. It is easy to test, just disconnect them or pull the external fuse (if yours have fuses).
