Logitech to give PS3 Harmony Remote support

It appears as if Logitech is about to silence the complaints of thousands of PlayStation 3 owners who are frustrated with the system's lack of an infrared port. Those with Harmony remotes--or any universal remote for that matter--up until now have had to rely on clunky, hacked-up IR-to-Bluetooth USB dongles for their all-in-ones remotes to take control of their PS3. It seems the Logitech Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 will play nicely with the line Harmony remotes right out of the box.
Among our largest concerns is whether the new device will have the capability to power on the PS3, something the IR solutions we've seen before don't handle as smoothly as we would have liked. There are no confirmed details yet, but a preemptive look at the FCC documents does include mention of Bluetooth and a separate power supply. Suffice to say, it sounds as this adapter will be able to power cycle your PS3. Imagine that.
You can be sure we'll have a review of this magical device the second it's available.

Finally...this is great news!

It is pretty exciting, isn't it? That's the main reason I've held off buying a Harmony.Slowly emerging from the 90's

Beauty! , Now I will be able to integrate my Harm ONE to my whole system... Take that Sony :P

I think this is the best news we've had on the forum in a long time.... I'll get one if/when it comes out!
-
I bet they sell it for close to $60 USD.
EDIT: Quote from Troy Peterson, Global Gaming Product Marketing Manager for Logitech, posted to Logitech's blog on Friday:"Yesterday, an Engadget reporter did some digging on an FCC Web site and uncovered our plans to manufacture an adapter that allows our Harmony remotes to control the PS3. We can't give you all the details just yet, but we can say that this adapter will, when used with any Harmony remote, give you complete control of your movie-watching experience on PS3. It will also turn the PS3 on and off – and allow you to set up your Harmony activities to include the PS3 just as you would any other device. You also won't need to dedicate any of your valuable USB ports to get that control." -
That's good support for sure. I like Harmony remotes, I just got the Harmony about 2 months ago and it is awesome in every way. I would recommend one to all of you.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Knowing it's Harmony, I wonder how accurate the discreet codes will be...
Plus, it'll have to work with my Universal brand remotes. I will never own a Harmony. 20% fail rate + 1 year of use before buttons start failing = Epic Remote Fail. I'll pay the extra bucks for something I program instead of some internet site...Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

We really like the harmony remotes in general and I can't wait for this to come out. I've had one Harmony fail on me, and Logitech replaced it without hesitation, even though it was six months out of warranty.
Maybe I'm one of the lucky few. Whatever, who cares I'll take whatever I can get... -

I have owned my Harmony 880 for almost 3 years now and have had zero problems with it, it is IMO very user friendly and not that diddicult to setup. I am 100% satisfied with my purchase, and even if the PS3 mod doesn't work as well as it is expected to, I don't have a problem using my controller while watching a movie.HT Rig

I am loving my Harmony and how well it works with my PS3 via the IR2BT. Granted, I never had the mod done to enable power on, but I always get up to put a disc in first anyways. I just start up the activity for PS3 with the console already on and it works great. Power down still works so no biggie to shut everything down. I probably won't be getting this device, but it is still about bloody time they came up with a solution for those that need/want true FULL operation via Harmony.

Count me in.

It's cool to see Harmony address this need, but if the price is anywhere close to the $60 mentioned earlier, that would seem to be a hard sell (to me at least).
I went the Nyko Blu-wave route a couple weeks ago and so far am pleased with the results. It was $15, and the only thing it doesn't do is turn on the system, but that's fine because I need to put in a disc anyway. -

Logitech's Harmony Adapter for PS3 arriving soon
The Harmony Adapter for PS3 will retail for $59.99.
(Credit: Logitech)
According to Logitech, the Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 is a couple of weeks away from hitting stores in North America. Europe will see a July launch, while Australia will get it any day.
Logitech has a blog post up that offers a full FAQ on the $59.99 adapter, but the long and short of it is the accessory simply converts your Harmony's IR commands to Bluetooth signals. For better or worse, unlike some PS3 IR dongles already on the market, the adapter requires an AC adapter. But Logitech explains that it not only didn't want the adapter to use up one of "your valuable USB ports," and without an external power source, you wouldn't be able to power on your PS3 using the adapter because the PS3's USB ports are dead when the unit is powered off.
