Requesting Help..!! Yamaha HTR6150 to Polk Sub

I just purchased a complete system pkgd by Costco:

It consists of the following components:

Receiver Yamaha HTR 6150
Speakers Polk RM6880 5.1 Surround system

I seem to be at a roadblock here in attempting to connect the sub to the receiver.

On the sub there is two RCA (white/Red) line in jacks. On the receiver there is only 1 jack which is also RCA (I am assuming), or it is digital audio (Co-ax) and is coloured black...what type it is I am unsure....but it does say Sub Woofer. At this time I am assuming that it is the output for the sub from the Receiver. But I am just not sure, nor do I understand why it is only a single jack output..??

Or am I just to use the L/R black and Red Speaker Level Input connections only..?? as per figure 6 on the scanned direction sheet and leave the line in untouched.

Pls See atached pics and I would be really greatfull for some direction here..!

Thanx in advanz..!!

Buy an RCA Y splitter that has two RCA plugs on one end and one RCA on the other. Hook the single end to the sub-out on the Yamaha Receiver, and the other two ends into the L/R inputs on the Polk sub. Also check your MANUAL. I am sure the Polk Manual must also describe the hook up.

    Good luck...

The Polk Manual is about as usefull as............ (type in your own answer.!)..all of 4 pages.

I thought about doing that and will in fact give that a try as I do have one of those splitters.

    We shall see..!

That will work. I see what you mean about that polk diagram. That's designed to use the line level ins and outs and to wire your sub directly to the L/R speaker terminals on the receiver, then your L/R speakers to the Line outs on the Sub. I wouldn't bother with that..go with the Y...you'll be fine.

Does your sub have a LFE Knob on the back that cuts off the low frequencies (it would read something like 50 or 60hz to 200hz. If the RCAs into the sub are 'filtered' then you will have to set that knob to the same frequency that you set your Yamaha as the LFE highend cutoff....with that speaker set, perhaps 100-120hz?

    Hi Steakman.

I an effort to economize and simplify, try the single cable into left input first. If that doesn't sound okay, then get the "Y" splitter which will do the trick.

Polk Manuals suck big time.
