Some know that I purchased the Wavelength Brick USB-DAC and am using my 7 y/o toshiba with itunes to run it. It uses the XP OS. The wavelength site states that XP doesn't work very well with this DAC and recommends upgrade to a laptop with Vista; KMIXER alters the data in XP. They also recommend J River media Center for CD management/ripping. I have been looking and found ASUS G71G-Q2 which I think will work well for what I want. Can anybody recommend a good laptop that would be a good music server/watch the occasional blu-ray movie; budget is under $2000. It needs to be fast.

Yes I still like my toshiba....it is a 3 Ghz pentium 4 satellite with 17" screen. I have never had a BSOD with this laptop. When I bought it the first thing I did was replace the HD with a faster HD. It makes a huge diff. The original HD had a speed less than 5400. I upgraded it to 7200.
Will check out that website....will check out that XPS 1530

    Hi Hobbyguy.

If possible, you might use the new laptop for audio only and your current laptop for everything else. Or, the current one for audio only and the new one for everything else.
