the HEIGHT of ignorance........(roommate)

So I've been doin the roommate thing for a while, and amazingly have found yet another dipshit that resides at the shallow end of the gene pool.......

His issues are apparently many, but the few core issues he has are these:

- TV - Because I'd been watching some shows that he didn't like (anything not ESPN) he would make comments about me getting my TV out of storage and he'd move his TV upstairs into his bedroom. I heard these comments over the span of about 5 or 6 weeks REPEATEDLY. My 40" tube TV is a PITA to move so instead i went out and bought a 52" Sony XBR6. He caught wind that I had purchased the tv and then said "i changed my mind and don't really want to move my TV....." so instead of my HDTV going in the living room, it went into my bedroom upstairs

-Speakers- (I know, brace yourselves)....I made the purchase of some SRT's and for a while had them in an unused corner of the living room through the winter and then finally decided to set them up and play with them. He came up to my room later that night and asked if I could put the tops of them on the floor (?!?!?!?!?) Of course I had to point out to him that there was no way in hell they were going to be run like that, then asked him what he envisioned would be done with the bottoms of them. (He actually thought the speakers ran directly connected to the TV.......) He didn't have any idea (but that's mostly because he's an idiot), so they have been downstairs and occasionally used.

He said "I don't like the way they look next to my smaller TV" to which I said "you're the one that opted not to have access to a HD big screen."

So basically, he cried to the landlord that it was either him leaving or me. Landlord dropped that on me about 3 days ago and the next night, I had an hour and a half long "discussion" with moron about what a **** he is.

Who in their right mind would refuse FREE HDTV AND AUDIO 'just because'......

He actually said that his friends that had come over said the SRT's were too big and looked ugly to which I said "Why teh EFF would I give a $h!t about what your friends think about MY stuff".......who thinks like that......seriously.......

So anyways, I'm shopping for a house and have found something that I REALLY like.......getting the process started and hopefullly will have something done in the next few months......

EDIT: MUCH more to the story, but have to run to meet up with my sister.........will continue later......

I guess I was really blessed with the roommates I have had. The last one is still by best bud [best man at my wedding] and we roomed in two different houses for about 6 or 7 years. I'd still trust him with my life and he absolutely LOVED the fact that he got first dibs on all my audio hand-me-downs. Since then we have both married and moved on but we still remain the best of friends and get-together as often as possible. Damn shame, some folks.

Best of luck with the new house.

Sounds to me like your roomie NEEDS a good throttling. I hope your house purchase goes as easy as mine. 3 weeks from offer to closing.

Roommates suck, unless they're good friends that you can stand living with too.

In your case, they guy was probably just a jealous POS, and hated that all your gear was better than his.

When I was "talking" with him for an hour and a half, he was on the verge of tears....I could hear it in his voice how freaked he was and how apparently rare it was for people to tell him that he's "just not that important".......he probably still wears diapers....who knows.

He has absolutely ZERO gear.....which is what blows my mind......I'm willing to put 10-15k worth of stuff into place to use and his solution is to cry to someone to cause an eviction? LAME!!!!!

Granted, he said that he had a list of things that he was bothered with.....I told him that 7 months after you're bothered about stuff, I don't give a flying F what his problems were.....if YOU don't value them enough to bring them up at the time, then I can guarandamntee you that I'm not gonna give a damn about your panties being twisted for so long......

He cannot make eye contact at all with me.....I love it.....I walk in and he's picking up his phone texting etc.....I swear that he keeeps texting people his last known whereabouts......hahahaha......loser.......

I imagine at some point your roomate was simply tired of waking up at 3am with you naked in his doorway, wearing only a chef's hat....this was his way to vent his frustration about the living conditions.

Brett... I know all too well where you're coming from. Roomates just AREN'T worth it! I had the advantage that they couldn't get me kicked out. Even though their stuff isn't completely moved out yet, I feel a huge weight off my shoulders. Being pissed at them all the time was really starting to have an effect on my relationship with my girlfriend. It was really hard to be pissed at them, but turn it off and be happy with her.

I live with 2 guys, and me and the other one haven't had so much as a cross breath towards each other......

If I end up getting the place I'm looking at, i think he might move with me (which would be great and give us both plenty of room to hang out and have someone there to keep an eye on my stuff while I'm out of town.....it's a thought.........first thing is getting the place though.......ha.

Other than my wife...I've never had a roomate...never will.

Before I was married I lived alone. If I'm ever widowed or divorced...I will live alone.

I haven't had a roommate since grad school...but the first one I had has been one of my best friends for almost 3 decades? Of course we had a big apartment so we often had a third member. And that almost never WORKED out!

You need your space...and when you're with someone who's cool you have that space...but when you're in the situation you describe it's pretty much like Sartre's NO EXIT. Except that you just have to EXIT!

    good luck...

I have had the same roommate for nearly 3 years, and he just makes me laugh. I think of him as a child and that's good enough for me. Nobody is going toook down on me for his mess.

What makes this guy a kid?:
-never once did groceries(ALL takeout) bonus: I get the whole fridge
-never washed his bath towel until his girlfriend stayed over one night (mold=not cool)
    -never prepared any food (meh)
-same pile of dirty dishes next to his PC for 2 months at a time ('hey bro, those are my plates you know?')
-never goes out even when he is invited
-girlfriend 7 years his junior has him whipped. She disses him, sarcastically, to his face and he doesn't even respond. She will eventually destroy him, but I've tried talking to this guy, and he just goes into defence mode(without so much as an actual defence).

A recent example. I broke my elbow last Thur and went in for surgery this Wed. Well, I went back to work on Friday. 30 minutes before I finished on Friday, I take 2 percocets for the pain. I head home, looped on painkillers, and walk in to my roommate and 2 of his buddies from work playing video games. I take off my coat and starting dissing Oliver, and he zings me back. We start talking trash and laughing it up.

My roommate turns to me and says "wow, nice welcome, there".

I turn to him real quick and say "STFU! First of all, it's up to the people already in the house to welcome those that walk thru the front door. Always has been, always will be. If you're gonna ****, come up with a real complaint, scrub."

    He didn't respond.

I know I've got my act together, so I find it easy to let others know where they're lacking.

Some people dont understand that not causing drama elsewhere doesn't get you preferential treatment at home. You make your bed; now lie in it.

There really has been no excuse for me to NOT get my own place other than why bother when I'm gone 80-90% of the time. I haven't wanted to look at stuff because the last thing I have teh time/patience for is yardwork etc when I'm home on the weekends for such a short period of time........

If I can get my own house great, but I found a townhouse (end unit) with 2672 sq ft. that is awesome, new build, and energy star compliant(or whatever the term is taht applies to houses). The utilities avg about $120 total a month, which is pretty inexpensive for that amount of space IMO........we'll see.....
