How embarrassing this has to be when two of our own vessels collide. You would think that with the communication, and navigation equipment they have they would be able to avoid hitting each other:o

At least the goverment has plenty of money to spend for repairs. Maybe they have to go to AIG or maybe China for a loan but they'll spend it.

Funny how they can detect a missile 1,000 miles away and shoot it down but cannot detect another Naval vessel with a massive signature. There is quite a bit of talk on numerous bubblehead ng as to what really happened. There is also a video of the incident as well if you know where to look (and no not the one just released by Yahoo). The video was taken by a seamen on the New Orleans. How he uploaded the video (67.3 megs) though is a mystery since both ships went silent after the incident.
Well I was d/l the video and was going to post it but the d/l was interrupted. Tried to d/l again and now the file is unavailable......guess the powers that be are on the ball to keep this from getting out. To bad I have my computer to auto erase everything as soon as I leave a site or I would upload what I had from my cache. -
" On 25 October 2003 Hartford ran aground near La Maddalena in Sardinia with such force that rudders, sonar and other electronic equipment were severely damaged.
Two senior US navy officers aboard the Hartfor were relieved of their command and six other crew charged with "dereliction of duty after that pervious incident.
" "On 20 March 2009 Hartford collided with USS New Orleans (LPD-18) in the Strait of Hormuz, slightly injuring 15 sailors on board
Looks like they need to replace the windshield wiper blades so they can see where they're going.
The Hartford and New Orleans were both heading into port, going in the same direction. I'd bet that the Hartford was shadowing the New Orleans through the narrow Strait of Hormuz and either the Hartford were going too fast and/or shallow, or the New Orleans reduced speed too quickly.
Either way, some heads will roll on this one.Sal Palooza -
Must of been a glitch with the electronic equipment Jstas installed.:D

I'm sure JAG has an office in Bahrain. I already know the outcome. Whichever CO is junior, will be REPLACED.
Same thing happened between the TDR, and the....Leyte Gulf, I believe.
Even though it was the TDR at fault, the CG's skipper got bounced.
That makes 2 'whoops' since Jan. 20th. I wonder if the squids are trying to tell us something:rolleyes:I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
Campbell (Cmdr. Jane Campbell, spokeswoman at 5th Fleet in Bahrain) said initial assessments showed two ballast tanks on the New Orleans were ruptured, resulting in seawater flooding that required the ship to be stabilized. A fuel tank was also ruptured, causing an estimated 25,000 gallons of marine diesel fuel to spill into the gulf.
“She had flooding in three distinct compartments,” Campbell said. “The flooding is secure, and the ship is making way on her own power.”
P-3 Orion aircraft flew over the area looking for a sheen of spilled oil, but “there’s no indication of that,” she said.
Hartford suffered “visible” damage to the sail and to a bow plane. Campbell could not say if components of the sail such as masts and periscopes are damaged.
“It’s important to point out that Hartford’s [nuclear] power plant was not affected in this at all,” she said. “We’ll be doing a full incident investigation report as well as a [Judge Advocate General’s Manual] investigation.”
This is third recent collision involving a U.S. submarine in the Strait of Hormuz or the Persian Gulf.

I'll repeat what I said in another thread recently:
A good zinger is a good zinger; that was a good zinger.
