A few years ago i posted under a different name and got beat up for mixing my new polk rti38s with my old bose and panasonic speakers and a sony receiver. Didn't really get any suggestions. I had to start somewhere...anyway here is what i came up with on my own.

polk rti38s front
polk FXi3 Surround (4 speakers)
polk CSI 5 CENTER SPEAKER
eD A2 - 300 Subwoofer(Elemental Designs) waiting for it to be shipped
Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH 7.1

I don't know if it is the best I could have done but it fit in my budget. I have about $300 left. Am I missing anything? Would floorstanding fronts make a big difference? My speakers are on small so the bass is going to the sub. Maybe I should just hold with what I have?
Any suggestions for fronts (or anything else) would be appreciated.
Thanks
Hil

Looks pretty good to me. What are you using for sources? If you are happy with your sources, I would sit on the $300 and enjoy what I have for a while. After I have listened to it for long enough I'm sure I would hear something I wanted to improve on, and I'd already have a $300 head start on the funds.:D

    BTW welcome back to CP

Thanks for your input. I am kind of challenged with the lingo but I guess by sources you mean what i have connected to the receiver?

    Panasonic DMP-BD35 blue ray
sony record player (cheap -but its fun listening to old records)
Mitsubishi Wide Screen-older back projection type

For cd's I'm using the blue ray player.

Yes that is what I meant by a "source". I don't know if you really want a stranger to tell you how to spend your money:eek: I guess I would look into doing something with the TT. You said it is cheap and you enjoy listening to old records so........ that was my pick to spend your money.:D

I appreciate your thoughts. I was mainly interested in finding out if I am missing something by having rti38s as fronts rather than something else like floorstanding/tower speakers

As long as your room is not too big for the eD sub and the 38's to fill nicely, I think once you have that dialed in you will be happy. Spend some time getting things set up, then if you feel something is lacking with the overall sound look at replacing the 38's. Just my $.02.
