Ghetto record cleaning

I found a bunch of old records at home but they're quite dirty.
Would this work? I plan to keep a pot of boiling water on the stove, dip a toothbrush in there and start scrubbing, and then wipe. Not looking for steam quality cleaning, just a nice deep clean.
btw, I found a kick **** way to clean them before playing. I use those static wipes. Works MUCH better than my red brush. I thought static would build up on the record but it didn't.

Spray them down with a mixture of 2 parts distilled water, 1 part 91% or better isopropyl alchohol, and a few drops of Dawn dishwashing detergent. Use a stiff but fine bristled artist brush to scrub them in a circular motion following the grooves. Rinse with distilled water. Repeat as necessary. I've been using this to clean dirty used records since I was in college (ie many moons ago!).DKG999

Thanks for the help. I don't have the alcohol. Is it ok if I just use boiling water and a toothbrush. I will try your technique once I have a lot more to clean.

I've never tried boiling water. Let us know if it works.DKG999

I got a smile from reading this LP cleaning procedure.
How we clean records in Texas
You just have to be careful. Too close with steam or boiling hot water will cause the vinyl to warp. It usually returns to shape, but I like to avoid it.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 * -

I would be concerned about warpage as well with boiling water."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

I'll definitely let you know how it works out. There are some dusty old goodies I'm going to clean.
ok, I will try with warm water due to fear of warping. But isn't steam hotter when it shoots out?
I"m going to try using water only. If they don't look new after after a couple washes, I will try it with soap. I'm afraid of soap residue. -
