soliciting advice

hi everybody: i recently got a good deal on a very gently used pair of monitor 70s. i have a polk psw350 sub, am hopefully swapping out the crappy old kenwood HTIB surrounds i'm currently using for a pair of monitor 40s, and an older energy center channel speaker. i've never been terribly happy with the center, and i'd like to get a hold of a cs2 so i can have a matching, budget-minded system, but finding a black cs2 either new or in decent used shape is turning out to be quite difficult (my wife won't go for cherry, despite the good price that they're going for on amazon).

so, i've been looking at the cs20, which appears to be the natural successor to the cs2, but i noticed that newegg has a great deal on the vm20 for the next 3 days.

my question to all you experts is this: would either the cs20 or the vm20 "match" my monitor 70s well enough to give up searching for a cs2? would either of cs20 or vm20 compliment my setup better than the other?

i'm new here, but any advice would really be appreciated. my wife has been incredibly understanding with my recent speaker purchases, and i'm trying to get them all in before my good luck runs out :)

thanks!

Not sure about the VM20, but yes the CS20 would be a good match for your Monitor's. I run a CS2 with my Monitor 70's and Monitor 40's and it sounds great. The CS20 is the center for the new TSi line that has "replaced" the Monitor series, and all the CS20 is, is a CS2 with a 0 on the end, lol. The TSi series is basically the Monitor series with a newer look. Welcome to Club Polk, oh and I like your system, lol it is pretty much the same thing I have. What are you using as your AVR?

thanks for the replies - much appreciated.
i'm running an onkyo tx-sr606. it's not much, but it does what i need it to, the price was right, and it is a huge upgrade over the 7-year old kenwood HTIB receiver that it replaced.
the monitor 70s replaced a pair of white van speakers a friend pawned off on me a few years ago - i'm listening to all my music again like it's the first time :)

There is nothing wrong with the 606, it is a great deal for what it does. Only drawback IMO is the lack of pre-outs which won't allow you to add an external amp to really make those 70's sing (which I'm sure Curt would agree with too) I run the 806 (as you can see in my signature) and I love it, it is the best receiver I have ever run anyway (in my limited audio experience) Good luck with the system, and with the CS20 and although it may not be an exact match look wise with your Monitors, it will work great for you, and that is what matters.
