I am getting speakers for my dorm room and its has come down to either the Polk m series or the Energy Take Classic 5.1.
The take Classic is 400 dollars with retail at 600.
For the Polk M series I would be getting the PSW10 sub 100, 2 polk m20 2 way towers for 140, two bookshelf m10 for 70 and a csm 2 channel center speaker for 100. This totals to 380. I would be using a Yamaha RX-V365

I loved my take5 setup and still use them in my garage rig.. but wolk give the nod to the polks if you have room for the towers in your dorm room. If space will be an issue go take5

In terms of sound is there a big difference?

A decent tower system usually trumps small satellites because it can handle lower mid-range and mid-bass frequencies and allows you to cross over at 80hz to the sub...which makes the sub less 'directional', harder to locate by ear. That will give you a fuller, richer surround experience.

The main strength of the Energy system is its highs, it has a very nice tweeter in it. Maybe even more detailed than the Polk but the other trade-offs are too much. Subs in both systems aren't that different in terms of abilities so having speakers with a greater sound range (Polks) becomes important. If I recall correctly the mid-woofers in the Energy are about 3-3.5". So they can't get down below 120hz, I'm assuming?

yes but considering the m20's are on sale for 69.99 isn't that a pretty good deal for someone with a budget?
