Patti Austin: A Tribute to Ella

Over the weekend, I saw Patti Austin with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She and the whole program were fantastic.
The material was pulled from the grammy nominated album Patti did a few years ago, "For Ella." Her pianist, bass player, drummer and the symphony did a masterful job in delivering the big band sound. Between numbers, she told stories about Ella and the people in her life. One song, in particular, stood out. Patti did a bluesy version of "Miss Otis Regrets" that knocked me out. I may even like her version better than Ella's.
As this is one stop on a tour, you might look to see if she stops anywhere near you. It's a good time.
