Go here for details, this preamp needs no introduction:

http://www.stereophile.com/amplificationreviews/604placette/
Sans some dust, the unit is MINT. I've owned it for about 8 months, I am the original owner, it was set in place and never moved. You'll get:
1) Placette RVC passive preamp
2) All original packing/manuals/remote/walwart
If you are a stickler for "from the studio" sound, here's your preamp. You won't believe how much your preamp was doing "wrong" until you try this. This is a totally passive pre, do your research before you buy as far as impedance matching, etc. I have had no problems with my equipment--everything easily plays to full volume.
I BS you not on what this unit does; it has to heard to be appreciated. Complete neutrality and a solidly locked center stage. There's a reason it sells for $1000 new. If you have a dedicated 2-channel setup with 1 main source--this piece is nirvana, period. In 35 years of hi-fi listening, this is the best, most tonally linear preamp I have ever owned.
This unit has 1 input, and 1 output. I currently have 3 sources running to my DAC, and then the DAC to the Placette. This arrangement works very well.
$875 firm + shipping (shipping should be cheap, the unit is very light)
Money order or *check (*check from members of my choosing ONLY). I reserve the right to sell to whom I choose. Don't send offers--if this doesn't sell at the price above, it won't be sold.
Why am I selling? It's time to get my tube on. I'm thinkin Prima Luna. More details later....:D

Tubes rule. Have fun Steve. Wish I still had a Dodd for ya."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

I went Passive, and it is good:) My system is a DAC with 3 digital In's, and the analog out to the passive pre. Very happy. The fears of driving amps with "no gain" have been relieved. DAC's and CDP's put out 2vrms which is plenty for a passive pre. My Adcom's like much more voltage than most amps, and my passive drives them fine:)
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

What he said or a really serious sand amp. The Parasound is getting long in the tooth!

Huh? Steve, you're still using the Parasound? Geez, man, there's better stuff out there for under a grand.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Steve,
Here's a search I did for between $800 ans $1200 on the 'gon:
Amps $800 to $1200
If I wasn't tickled pink with my Cary, I'd try a Krell KAV-250 or a Van Alstine, or a Classe or an Aragon or a Threshold, or a Bryston...

That Van Alstine would be cool. Here's a Van Alstine tube amp: http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstube&1242848452&/Van-Alstine-Fetvalve-550-EXR
Tons of better options out there. Ask Zero -- he's a great resource for deals on amps.
IMO, Parasound is OK for a basic HT system, but look elsewhere for music.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm fine with the Parasound. I have no desire for a tube amp--tube preamp, maybe.
If anything, speakers will be next.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

Ok, but upgrading to the Cary was like upgrading from the 1C's to the SRS's. It was an immediate, noticeable difference for the positive. I didn't have to spend 3 days trying to hear a difference. It was there right now.
