Would you go see the Doobie Brothers if they were to come to your city?

this was suppose to be a poll. but I effed it up..

anyway.. i like the Doobies. but not sure if they can still work their sound or if like a lot of other aging groups.. don't sound so good anymore.

anyone seen them recently... say oh the last couple of years?

The Iowa State Fair in August 2009 is trying to be some type of '70's revival. I think they have Peter Frampton, Heart, Doobie Bros, and some other bands I can't remember at the moment. Some of these are like the Guess Who, who tour with the original drummer, none of the other original members are still in the band. I would check out who is still in the Doobie Bros before I bought tickets.

There were two different Doobies, pre Michael McDonald and late Doobies with him. Both were great in their own right. The earlier version rocked while the last version was more of a pop/R&B/fusion band. A concert without both styles is a miss for me and noone has that painful grunt of Michael McDonald. Signature sound no doubt.

I saw MM open for Steely Dan two years ago doing alot of the later Doobies stuff and his voice was still there, but the energy of such a great band backing him was amiss.

The latest tour will inlcude Patrick Simmons and Tom Johnson of the pre-MMc era - he ruined the DB, IMHO. I saw them last year with Chicago and they still have it.

I'd probably go see them. Looks like they have three of the early band members still around...Tom Johnston. Pat Simmons and Michael Hossack. I would buy a ticket in the $50± range...not $100-$200 like Scalphub...excuse me...Stubhub wants to charge.

I saw them in the late 70's at Blossom Music Center between Akron and Cleveland, a fantastic (and acoustically sound) covered outdoor amphitheater with ample lawn seating too. That show was spectacular and I would love to see them there again. I use their "Best of the Doobies" vinyl as one of my references when doing component comparisons.
