You got to run it on a Quad CPU (Dual Core 64 Bit Itanium Processors) to see how fast it take to shut down. :D

If you used hibernate mode in XP, it's possible to boot up in less than 30 seconds with a slower rig than what you have listed.

I have a friend that is a graphic artis and switched to ubuntu and loves it. He says he hasnt found anything ubuntu cant do a mac can do. Dont get me wrong I like macs buth thier just not worth the price tag to me.:D

Ubuntu is not bad, probably will enjoy it more if I spent a lot of time adding new programs and features to it. Right now I am using Windows 7 runs so much faster than vista, looks and works better. I put in on a new partition, and didn't have to install any drivers which was unexpected.

I just added a new development box to the collection and installed Fedora 9 and then Sun's xVM VirtualBox software. After that I loaded a virtual WinXp Pro installation; it's fast and the WinXP loads in about 45 seconds. (the XP instance can't join my home domain, so it's just a experiment.)

Ubuntu is an African word that translates to "I couldn't figure out how to install Debian."
j/k, enjoy any flavor of Linux kernel-based OS's. I prefer the customization and stability of Linux, but I make my money with Microsoft.

    I love Ubuntu.
Been using it for 2 years now on a free Pentium 3 (250mb ram) dell laptop.
It boots up super fast - about a minute - and if it is only "suspended" it boots up instantaneously.
Their freeware also works very well, office apps, graphics apps, internet and AV apps.....all run without crashing unless I work with a file that is too big.......

    Rock on UBUNTU

I'm ATM turning my CentOS machine into Ubuntu machine, with OpenLDAP + Samba. I will most likely also install LTSP and run couple of the older machines as dumb terminals. Why? Just for the fun of it...and I might do this in my wife's workplace real soon.
