I borrowed a copy of Red Cliff from my relatives. Never heard of it but they've been going on and on and on about it. Usually, I ignore their recommendations because they're mostly into asian soap operas that have martial arts on the side and these series typically run 9 to 18 DVD's but this one was on Blu-ray and the director was John Woo so I was curious.
Visually stunning. Some scenes are a bit heavy on CGI. The battles are fantastic but it does descend into a soap opera a bit. Nevertheless, I'm glued to my seat as the battle of Red Cliff is about to start and...

Argh!!!!! Further internet research shows Red Cliff 2 came out in theatres overseas on January 2009. There's no mention of a US release. I'll have to wait for Red Cliff 2 on Blu-ray.
The movie is 140 minutes and eats up 2 DVD's. You can pick up a copy from Amazon for $8.01+shipping but the Blu-ray version is $50. May be cheaper elsewhere but I haven't checked. It is offered on Netflix but I don't see the Blu-ray version but then I'm not a Netflix member.

Highly recommended.
Go ahead. Make fun of his feathers.
