Sony BDP S550 dvd play

My BRD played great. Terrific sound on 5.1 input. But the dvd stalled out after less than a minute...and did not start again.
I seem to recall that a firmware update is available but it is not listed on Sony's firmware update.
Anyone know about this....I don't want to keep my DVD player hooked up.
