what about only doing the crossover rebuild half way?

ok.. i have had two pairs of Monitor 7B's and 7A's crossover's rebuilt. Each time I have enjoyed the x-over updating. both have had peerless tweeters.

ok, stay with me on this one.. what if I want to have the SDA 2B's crossovers redone, but only half way??

meaning, I am very pleased with the RD0-194 tweeters that I'm afraid I would lose their pitch if I had the crossovers rebuilt. so can a crossover be rebuilt and not tough the parts of the crossover that runs the tweeter? anyone ever try this?

I'm just afraid if the wrong part is replaced, i could end up with a shrill sounding tweeter.. that may not tame itself again.. then i'd be very pissed off.

You can rebuild the complete crossovers and still use the 194s, and it will only get better. Definitely not shrill. You can also just do the low pass but that , in my opinion, would only give a small improvement. Your best bet is to do the TL mod and use the 198s. If you don't like it, it's easy enough to reverse.

i don't think my older 2B's qualify for the TL upgrade.. the serial number If I remember right isn't the right ones

here are my serial numbers. left 15425 and right 15422

    blade/blade cable.

let me know though.. i'm not displeased with the sound.. but as with a lot of older gear... updating can yield some big improvements :D

Al, I believe you are confusing the TL upgrade with the ability to use the AI-1. Your 2B blade/blade crossover uses the same components as the 2B pin/blade, so TL away.

yep yep. My 2Bs are also blade/blade but the crossovers have the same internals as the pin/blade. Just do it...

ok.. that is good news then for my 2b's. now i just need to find someone willing to do the work. I don't have the needed skills to do them myself.

TL is the way to go. You will forget about the RDO 194's and love the sound of the RDO 198's.

Is there a link to a parts list for the TL upgrade for the varous SDA's? I may break down and do my CRS+'s and use my 194's in my AB-800s.

I think there is one for the CRS+ specifically. This is one for the 2B's, which use the same crossover.

What is the "TL Upgrade"? I have seen the term from time to time but never paid enough attention to it because I didn't have SDA's now that I am getting SDA-SRS 2's I want to know what it is and if the SRS 2's can have this mod?
    2-channelBelles 22A Pre, Emotiva XPA-2 Gen 2, Marantz SA8005, Pro-Ject RPM-10 Turntable, Pro-Ject Phono Box DS3B, Polk Audio Legend L800's, AudioQuest Cable throughout.
