boxes for 6x9s...

i just picked up a set of mmc690s and need to build some new boxes to hold these. now my old boxes were basically just a 3 1/2 inch thick piece of wood with a hole cut in them and the speakers sat in.
will that same set up be just fine for all 6x9s, or should i build a real, sealed box for these? if i do go with a sealed box, whats the internal volume i should be shooting for?
and before any one says ditch the 6x9s and go for components and sub, i cant. not physically possible in my car, a 4spd 69 corvette.

That 3 1/2" piece of wood install scenario sounds like something just too terrible to be in a Corvette.
Do you have a picture of where these will be mounted? -
i found the info i needed this afternoon while digging thorough archived stuff. the new boxes will look identical to my current ones (11x9x3.5), just taller (11x9x4.125) and will actually be hollowed out this time, rather then made from a solid block. the new boxes will give me .165 cubic feet, recommended boxes for these are .15-.2
heres a couple of old pictures ive got from last spring. those old infinites sounded just god awful... ive been beating the hell out of the mmcs for a few hours this afternoon and i love them so far. just need a set of momo 4x6s to replace the DBs now.

.15 - .2 cu ft recommended for 6x9's ?????
Where did you get those specs? -
Most 6x9's are better off IB, no? Why build a box? Sound deaden and install.1993 Ford Ranger super cab:

That doesn't sound right at all, I'm thinking they meant 1.75 - 2 cu ft.
These are the smallest boxes I've ever built for 6x9's which actually sounded decent.(tuned to 50hz or so)

theres no way something like that would ever fit in the car.
