I am the seller. Several of the members here assisted with troubleshooting these several months ago, the threads should all be searchable (unless there's a max age on here).

$200 openers is very tempting. No reserve?

$200 *is* the reserve... I know that would be ridiculously low for these if they were 100% perfect, but note the caveats about the left speaker's electronics and look for the thread somewhere here in this forum for all details.

Aside from that issue, cosmetically the wood is in awesome shape and the grills are in OK shape, someone with a damaged pair of 1C's having a good left crossover could build a near-mint pair out of them with very little work.

Crazy though, not too long ago I saw just the drivers (without the box) from a single 1C sell for $150 on eBay.

So, if someone got new grills and fixed the XO, then this would be pretty close to mint?

It's too far of a drive for me, but if it was me (selling), I'd also post links there to the threads here detailing what you've gone through trying to track down the issue? Some guys thinking they can solve it easier based on what you've gone through will be much more likely to bid.
    Just my 2 cents.

"pretty close", yes... the wood veneer looks great and the drivers are all good. As I said, the grills have some fraying around the edges. It's hard to imagine they're about 20 years old.

BTW these are the studio versions - they are sonically identical to the standard version but are veneer instead of solid oak. They weigh 15lbs less each (85 vs 100).

If any serious potential buyers want me to try to get close up photos of any area, I am willing to snap pics and email. Just please please be respectful and don't ask for pics if there's no way you'd buy them in the first place.

Also I have the full size versions of the eBay pics, which are much better quality.

    Sending from 85226, to <your zip code>
    Destination type: Residential address
Pick some date in the future for the date

    Number of Packages: 2
Use the same values for all packages? Yes

    Packaging: "My Packaging"
    Weight: 95 lbs
    Dimensions: 47 x 20 x 15
Declared value: <whatever amount you want to insure each box for in USD>

Select "I will schedule a pickup on UPS.com"
Do you have a daily pickup? No.

    Click "Next"

Scroll to the bottom for the ground rates. I will honor the rate from this page, verified for correctness by me, even if actual is a few dollars more.

I got a local offer for $300 for these, which I am thinking seriously about taking. Advice? Is this a better price than I'm likely to get on eBay?

considering the issue with the left speaker, which admittedly,I can't remember what the problem is,, 300 seems very fair to me.Good luck with your sale.

I ran across this webpage surfing around. It is a history of what Vintage Polks sold for on ebay... No so up to date, but will give you a good idea of what speakers are going for. Rule of thumb that Ken at Polk told me a long time ago..... Speakers retain 50% of their original value regardless of age as long as their quality is high, 8 out of 10 or higher... I dont know if that holds true today

Great site for SDA info......not so great for pricing info. It's always been what the market will bear. 50% of original value seems high but with some of the nicer, lower production SDA's it's possible in the right situation and absloutely minty.

In this economy I wouldn't hold my breath waiting to get 1/2 of original retail when selling.

$300 is a very fair price and to not have the hassle of shipping to someone on e-bay, accepting a little less $$$ is worth not having the headaches, IMO.
