And it picked Friday night drinks and concert vids when the daughter wasn't home night to do it too.

So now I have a decision to make, do I go blu-ray with a 1080i plasma, or do I get another upconverter, or do I send this in to get repaired.

The real pain in all this is we have my entire family coming to spend a week next month and all our monies are going into fixing stuff on the house. This could not happen at a worse time.:mad:
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

Stuff like this always seems to happen at the worst possible times.

Is it under warranty? If not the repair cost might be close to the new unit price. However, one lesson to take from this is to have a spare.

i'd go with a blu ray player myself if it were me.. they can be had for as little as $199 last time I checked. Samsung, Sony and Panasonic seem to be the major players these days for BD players.

I'd definetly get a BD player. Remember... A good BD player will up-convert DVD's just as well, plus play BD's.:)

If you are looking for a good stand alone for something under $300, I'd personally go with the Pioneer Elite BDP-51FD.

This is never a problem for me. In addition to my currently set up HT and 2 channel rigs, I have at least 3 DVD players, 4 CDPs, an AVR, a stereo receiver, a 2 channel amp, a 2 channel pre, a TT, several sets of ICs and speaker cables all boxed up in the basement ready to be put into immediate service if neccessary. This does not include the vintage receivers, tape decks, TTs etc...

I guess I am a bit of a pack rat and rarely sell stuff...just buy stuff. :o

To the OP, my condolences. Find out how much/ long it will take to fix, then determine wether it's worth it?

"Hi, my name's Shack, and I'm an Audioholic"

How in the hell did you come to that conclusion?

Let's see.... I have almost 8,000 posts on THIS forum. I've traveled thousands of miles to spend time with other people on this forum on several occasions. I've taken vacation days to go to Maryland to visit Polk's headquarters. On vacation, I check the place I'm visiting for audio or camera stores. I still own a pair of speakers and TT I bought almost 40 years ago. I still have my first LP I purchased at the age of 14. I own thousands of CDs, LPs, cassette tapes and DVDs...and I still buy more. I believe wire makes a difference. I know the life history of Edgar Villchur and Henry Kloss. I think Bose, Monster and MP3 suck.

    Of course I'm an audioholic...

    Wooohoooo!!!!! I fixed it!

What happened was it lost it's picture, but it still had sound. So, I did a firmway upgrade figuring I couldn't make it any worse than it already was, and it worked.

I'm a happy camper now. I don't think the WAF is therer right now for any new cool stuff, what with my whole family coming next month (and we have a lot of stuff that needs to be done around here).

Good one. "Yesterday and Today" was one of my first. I'm thinking maybe "Disraeli Gears", Cream....but those are long, long gone.
I think I may have a 45 of "Yellow Submarine" around somewhere from then.

I barely remember being 14. I do remember being about that age and listening to DSOTM with headphones, thinking it was a magical experiemce. And that was before I discovered things that helped the magical experience along.

I'm thinking my first LP was probably Black Sabbath "Paranoid"
