Hi all, little new here but I recently became interested in my late fathers stereo equipment...only took a couple minutes of listening too ;)
I've id'd all the other components, but I can't figure out what model of speaker I have here. Looked all over the things for any writing or anything but to no avail, so I come to you guys.
Sorry for the poor picture.

Those are Polk RTA12's. If I had to guess...I'd say RTA12B's. I may be wrong on that part though...so anyone feel free to correct me.

    Excellent, thanks :)
One more question I suppose, if you guys don't have an answer thats fine too.
The amplifier I'm using to power these is an Audio Acoustics D90( http://www.arcdb.ws/D90/D90.html), is that an appropriate match for these speakers?

I'm not familiar with that amp...it should be fine though.

Does it sound good? That's the real test.;)

I'm not too experienced in these things, but it sounds better than anything most anything I've listened to in the past.

The amplifier is an Acoustic Research d90.
That's a nice amplifier. Just get rid of the equalizer.
What do you have for a preamp?

The preamp is a Nikko Beta III. I don't believe the EQ is attached to anything.

Can you list the whole system?

Sure, not much left to list though.
Besides the amp and pre amp there is a Denon TU600 tuner, and a Sony KC-K61 tape deck. There was a Technics CD player, but it wasn't working very well at all, so I currently have a DVD player hooked up to listen to CDs.

you may want to aim your speakers not so much inward.. that's called toe in. you do want some toe in, but not quite that much. this will help with the left and right soundstage in music.

The crossover should have the model number of the speaker on the circuit board if they are indeed RTA 12s.

Pretty sure these are 12B's. The B used Peerless tweets and the C used SL2000's. As far as toe-in goes, the owner's manual states to point the tweeter (speaker) directly at you while in the main listening position. I swear.

    Very interesting.

It does look as though it's using a Peerless tweet alright but it has a frame-less type top construction.

Two models with the frame-less top design were the Monitor 11 and the RTA-12C. However, the Monitor 11 and RTA-12C were advertised as using the SL2000 tweeter.

I do have a number of pictures of Monitor 12Bs though and they are of the framed type top design. (As seen in pics.)

(Of course the RTA-11, RTA-11T and the Monitor 12 series 2 were quite different.)

Maybe these are just another one of Polk's many transitional stage speakers.

Yep, rta-12's. for reference, there is a pair for sale near me (on craigslist) with better pics if you want to check them out to compare the tweets. Here's the link:

Those ones have a different tweeter. That's the SL-2000...the ones in this thread have Peerless tweets.

Not bad prices on either of those pairs of speakers though.:)

And I agree with the previous sentiments...way to much toe in. I'd straighten them out a bit...it would probably drastically improve the stereo imaging, and widen the sound field overall.
