there was a thread several months ago that had a link to the top 10 something. one of these was how to hack the wii into a dvd player using wii homebrew. i have searched but can not seem to find the same thread with the link to the instructions. anyone remember the title of this thread?

a note to anyone with a wii-do NOT update it if you ever plan to try this, i spent 5 hours downgrading to an earlier version of firmware.
well from what i have read nintendo would have to pay someone els if they allowed the wii to be used as a dvd player. i got the homebrew channel installed but can not a burned dvd to play, guess ill have to try a store bought one.Polk monitor 10B's and 5 jr's

DOnt think it will enable closed captioned so i dont need to try this. I got ps3 but it sucks to play dvd because HDMI does not encode closed captioned. I need to buy dvd player that encodes via regular cable or rca composite.I am 100% BORN DEAF and No I am not kidding! Why am I here? My wife's hearing!

Why bother when there are many much more capable dvd players for less than the price of a wii and no hassles"The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage." Thucydides

it has options to play subtitles but mine is back to hanging up after it loads the menu, so i can't test it.

not subtitles... closed captioned with black bars behind, thats totally different from subtitles.
i use CC1 for tv programs to relay closed captioned or dvd without subtitles but offer CC.I am 100% BORN DEAF and No I am not kidding! Why am I here? My wife's hearing!

So from what I have been reading, you have to have a chipped Wii before you can even attempt this right?
-
and knowing the video quality of the system, why would you ever want to use it as a dvd source anyhow? It doesn't have a digital out so what's the point? I say just buy a $50 sony and be 1000 times better off.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
