MY SL 1700..was made in the 1970's...sometime.
The motor was a tad different from the 1200..but nothing i could hear.
They don't make parts for this..but the head shells are interchangeable.
They don't have a rewire kit for this. But say..it's not that bad as is.

So i can just cut off the old rca plugs...put on some new gold plated stuff, and get a new headshell.....which is just easyer to to put cartragies in.

So once agian...this table will beet the crap out of way over priced Raga or VPI stuff. My table is at least 30LB's....total sprung....NEVER had a problem with volume..thats why I bought it. Plus is built like a tank. To be honest I have never found a table that comes close..even for mega bucks......

My VPI platter alone is 26 lbs. I wouldn't say VPI or Rega is overpriced.

Yes, there are those that dig vintage gear here. There are many ways to post a pic. One way is to go to Photobucket and upload your pic onto their hosting site. Then when you are making the post with the pic in it, hit the little box at the top of where you are typing the post that shows a "set of mountains. Then attach the http: of the picture in the box that appears.

I would suggest you try this a couple of times in the testing area to be sure you get it right. I hope this helps.

So, you have compared the mentioned TTs with yours in the same system in order to make that statement? Or is this just a guess? Does your TT/cart retrieve a more refined and detailed signal or does it just go louder without feedback?

I'm not bent, just wondering how you arrived at your conclusions. Thanks for sharing .

NO JM I have NOT compared these TT....it also has to do with the cartrige you pic out. I have not said..any of these are junk...they are just not as good as the SL-1200..price verse quality. At this price point........

I don't think VPI makes a table at that price point.

Well..like i said.....hey buy what you want...I have not tried this stuff out.
If you want to go look at the specs...the SL stuff is better, for the most part,

But Price VS perfomance..just a better TT.....but thats just me....

    To paraphrase:
I've never, heard or compared the other tables so I don't really know anything about them...other than what I've read about them...and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt...mine is better...because it is REAL heavy and has springy things.

Before I purchased a VPI, I tried all of the TTs (all Technics models with AT carts) from that era I had saved from my prior analog life. Regardless of their current cost, I could not live with the performance (price VS performance ratio in your case) of these TTs.

So I purchased the base model Scout. There really wasn't any comparison other than they all played LPs. Yes it cost more, but the results were worth it for me. I gave away all the old TTs as I would not even use one for a backup.

Its also disappointing to see you proclaiming a better product based on specs without actually listening. At one point I had three 120 wpc amps. The one with the 'best' specs sounded the worst.

Well, like i said..don't get me wrong here. Price dose have to be figured in, unless you have bottomless pockets. Nor did i say a 450 dollor SL is better then a 1K+ VPI. What i did say, is for 450, the SL pretty much has no peer.

IN that Price point. Hence..price VS Performance.

Which $450 TTs have you compared it to. I bet I have a > $450 TT made within the last couple of years that is every bit as good as the SL...only it doesn't weigh 30 lbs or have springs...It just performs very well.
