Is the NAD 317 a "common ground" amp that I could use with my SDA's in my 2 channel rig?
Thanks guys, I tried to search the forum but we have a very finicky search engine and got no hits.

According to NAD the 317 integrated is very close to the NAD 214 power amp. Nearly identical.

Call the nice folks at NAD and ask.

I will bet the farm on it.It has a bridging switch indicting that in normal stereo mode the output stage will not be a bridged/balanced design.Testing

Check the amp closely for hum/buzz in quiet passages or with no input. The 317 can potentially have a hum/buzz problem due to one of several issues. Namely, bad solder joints in the volume board, bad solder joints in preamp section, and possibly bad caps or solder joints in the protection circuit. If it has the latter problem, it will occasionally get stuck in protection mode.
None of these issues are hard to fix if you are handy with a soldering iron and have the service manual (available from hifiengine.com)
I played around with one of these amps for a little while last year. Unfortunately, mine was plagued with several of these problems listed above in addition to a problem receiving signals from a remote. I sent it back to the seller for a refund. Outside the hum/buzz, protection mode problems, and the remote issues, it was a great sounding little amp and it went very well with a pair of vintage Mon 7 that I had at the time. I would imagine it would sound good with a smaller set of SDA, but probably would lack the guts to drive 1C or bigger SDA.For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
Looks like I may get this NAD 317 in the next couple of days. The seller will throw in the NAD 522 CD player as well for a few dollars more. He bought them new and is the only owner.
The CD player did not get the best online reviews, but for the price I'll take it and give it a listen. -
BTW, you can see gut shots in the "show us your a$$/guts" thread.

How did you fix the problem?

This is a killer little amp. Last night I ran it for hours at very high volumes with my SDA's (6 ohms) and it hardly even got warm. My old Onkyo would have been so hot you could have freid an egg on that bad boy.
Think this one is a keeper for now.;) -
Congrats. Now bring it down for a get together:)Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I have used both amps with my Paradigm 100's. I even bi-amped them and to my ears they sound identical.I read that Peter Bath was the leading engineer responsible for a lot of earler Nad and AMC products. They look very similar inside as well.Their ratings are 150 wpc .

Really like this NAD gear. I doubt this little guy is worthy to bring down to a get together Ben, but I want to come down and chill and meet some other polkies. If I make the trip, I really want to hear some tubes, maybe the little amp Tom/George/Russ are throwing around.
