So...I have to admit...I've been cheating a little...at headfi.org.
Since I'm going on a long international flight later this year, I've decided I should invest in some nice IEM's.
I'm really looking hard at the Klipsch Custom 2's since I'm really concerned about a lot of the others being too bright.
Any thoughts?
Wes

Head-fi is quite a forum. Too much info if anything.
Anyways, I have a pair of Shures which I really enjoy and highly recommend. IEMs are IMO a must have for air travel. -
My personal preference is the Etymotic ER-4P, or S. The hours I have spent listening to these with a Sony SRF-M37V on the front porch with a beer in my hand are some of the best moments of my entire life. Without question one of the top 10 audio products I have every owned.

Right...then you get bitched at for asking the same old question or bumping your thread after no one responds for a day!
Which Shure's do you have? I'm considering some SLC4's from the Shure line up also.
Thanks,

+1. I have the Shure E4C's, which I only use when I do not want any outside noise interference.
I would not recommend them for driving or even walking about, ( ymmv in the company of your wife or S/O ) as they also are very efficient earplugs. They've dropped in price since the E5C's came out.
Only issue I have with them is the cables are stiff and heavy. Also, be careful on ebay as there are alot of knock-offs. -

Thanks, John. I pretty much avoid eBay these days. Sticking with Amazon for this purchase.

I had (pre-stolen days) a pair of Skullcandy Full Metal Jacket phones and I absolutely loved them. The only downside (nominal) was the body is all metal and could sometimes feel weighty, but they had 11mm drivers and were very very clear.
I'm replacing them tomorrow, and I've thought about spending money on the Shure's, but I don't know that i can justify that kind of money for something that's so.......portable? (And yes, as I type that I realize it's lunacy to say that while carrying a laptop, ipod, etc......over it)comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -

I pretty much feel the same about justifying too much cost for something I basically only use when I travel, but I don't want to get something that sounds bad and is too bright on a 22 hour flight either.

Agreed.....i seriously recommend checking out the Full Metal Jacket's......the bigger driver has more bottom end, and with most of the in ear bud style units, you don't need to turn the volume up as much since you're blocking out most outside noise (airplane engine, spouse, etc).comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

I have a pair of JVC foam ear plugs. I actually really like them, and honestly have to admit that it was the best 20 dollars i ever spent on ear phones. It cancels nearly 100% of the outside noise, and the foam/marshmellow is very soft and forgiving....yet durable. I found that the sound was actually very engaging considering it was a smaller ear phone.
Walmart and BB usually carry them...you could at least give it a try, but I do know that my last plane flight I had the stewardess shaking me to get my **** together as we were about to land...never heard the pilot overhead or anything. and I was not asleep. -
I got a pair of Denon AH-C700's I am pleased with them, comfortable, good bass, and excellent sound quality.Setup:
2 Channel: Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand, T+A P 1230R, Primare SPA21, Oppo BDP-105
PC: Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand, Cambridge Azure 650A v2 , Peachtree iDAC, Denon DVD-3800BDCI -
I'm reviving an old(er) thread of mine.
I picked up some Klipsch Custom 2's yesterday at Guitar Center for $80 plus tax. They were a little cheaper on Amazon, but I went for the instant gratification.
I like the sounds so far, but they haven't burned in for even 24 hours yet, so I thiese are supposed to get better with break-in.
Sound wise they are almost exactly what was I was wanting. Detailed, but not bright high-end. Mids are very detailed, but a touch on the warm side with female vocals. Men sound pretty good. Bass is very good but if you are a basshead then look elsewhere. I think if you like the SDA sound you'll like these units overall. They aren't quite as dynamic, relatively speaking, as SDA's, but I hope that improves with some more break-in. They also do well sealing the ambient noise out as well.

I've just made several international flights with my Shure SE310 IEMs and could not be happier. They are efficient enough to be driven by most any iPod and when paired with an external amp, they have excellent bass and overall balance across the frequencies. These IEMs are great for flying for several reasons. First, they block out tons of outside noise. The roar of the jet engine is completely drowned out. Second, they are are inconspicuous enough that most flight attendants don't see them when checking to see if all electronic devices are off . . . even when you are only using them to block out noise. Finally, the headphones come with a sturdy case that is easy to pack away and get out when you feel like listening to some tunes.
