Other Speakers of Same Caliber and Price?

Out of curiosity... Can you guys name other brands of speakers that are of similar quality and price? I would like to expand my speaker brand knowledge base...

The ones I know of currently:

NHT, JBL, Mackie, Polk, Swan, Onix, AV123, Ascend Acoustics, Boston Acoustics, B&W, Dali, Totem, Paradigm, GMA,... I think that's about it.

But I know NHT, JBL, Mackie, Swan, and some Paradigm are powered speakers and I would really like to check out passive speakers...

Also, even within these brands, it's hard to decide which models are the better ones in their line ups... Maybe someone could help point out the better ones from these brands too.

    Better to let us know more specifically what you might be looking for (ie. the type of room, any constraints, what will be powering the speakers, etc). We will then be more equiped to answer your questions.

    Just a... 20' x 20' room (approximately, give or take 5' on each side... big differences, but haven't decided on room yet). Used for everything, including TV, music, movies, games, etc.

    I can get whatever amp that needs to fit. I am looking for options for the long haul, so I won't mind building my setup piece by piece. However, I do want a speaker budget of below 1.5k... and that's the utter max unless there's an amazing pair of speakers that definitely require an additional $500 or so. Hopefully, keeping it around $1k or lower. Amp and source will just be purchased according to what is necessary after the speakers.
