That could be the best pair of 1As I've seen in awhile. The overhang usually takes a beating and the bases tend to get water damage.

WOW those look totally different than my 1As! No fuses, no ports in baffle, diff.tweeters and IC terminal config. I guess there were different series within a series!

That happened a lot with the SDAs. Though I've never seen or heard of any with ports.

One of the pics shows what "appear" to be two round holes below the tweets and above the upper MWs. Custom mod maybe ??

Weird. The owner's manual has them in the picture, too.

Earliest version of SDA1. Odd connector for SDA cable, fused tweet, ports were all part of the earliest versions. The next iteration changed cables, dropped the ports and fuses but still kept the extra tweeter. I don't think that the 1A designation would have even come about until there was a 1B. As with many of the lines in the earlier days, the line evolved and updated without moniker changes being adopted so not all 1As were created equal.

IIRC, the very early 1's that had the ports were "Signature Editions" Somehwere around here there is a post with quotes from Matt about why they used the small ports in those very early SDA's. Can't remember the exact reason other than for resonance control or something like that.......

    H9

P.s. actually I think the Signature Ed's had a plate covering the ports, now that I think about it.

Darqueknight's info in the sticky talks about the differences between the SDA-1's and SDA-1A's. The conversion of 1's to 1A's notes that a horizontal solid brace has to be removed that separates the upper MW's from the lower and that the ports have to be plugged. So these have a bass reflex upper cabinet with a sealed passive lower cabinet. Two cabinets for the price of one!:D These also have 3 XO modules, a main, array and a LF.
