Looks like I have decided on the LSi 15's, LsiC,and LSi 7's for the rears. Both HT & Music application. Looking at Oink 806, Denon 2809ci, & Pioneer Elite sc-05. Since I will probably be adding an external amp in the future, wondering which receiver to go with(already know about pre amp out feature). Also wondering if receivers change watt/channel when driving 4 ohm speakers like I see in external amplifier specs. Lastly, do any of the above receivers increase watts/channel if only 5 of 7 channels are being used? Thanks again guys......

With that speaker set, the SC-05 is going to be the most capable of driving them. That's a pretty hard load to be driving with an AVR. I'm seeing external amps in your future...very soon.

To answer your other questions, yes, they will be pushing more watts with a 4 ohm load than an 8 ohm load. There will also be a little bit more power going to them with only 5 channels rather than 7.

Unfortunately, according to their website, it only applys within a 200 mile radius of their store in New York.

Thats why I mentioned another authorized seller

Murray, I going to take a different approach, just to give you more to think about:D. Since you already are thinking of adding an external amp, which I would recommend as I don't think any of those manufactures claim or recommend 4 ohm capabilities on those AVRs. Note I'm not saying they can not handle 4 ohms, as they do have some pretty robust amps, just not sure how well they can do it.

That said, and with the constant advancement of technology in processors, have you considered going down in the line ups to the cheaper models that offer pre-outs? My way of thinking is a lot of the cost on those upper level AVRs is for the amp section. You do gain some features and connectivity, but do you need it? Video processing/ multi zone/ satellite radio/ tons of connectivity, some need them all some do not. For those that do not something like the Pioneer VSX 1018 can save some $$ to get the external amp right from the start. Lot's of good used amps in the $400 range. A good amp will stay with you for a while, but 2 or 3 years from now you may be tempted to upgrade an AVR/processor to get some new feature we have not even heard of yet. The lower investment on the AVR allows me to sell it pretty cheap (which also usually means pretty fast)with out feeling like I lost much and can buy into the newer technology if I choose.
You have about the same cost in an entry level AVR + amp as you would a $900 AVR.
Just looking at things from a different angle

Yes typically an AVR would output more watts with a 4 ohm load, sometimes only marginally more. AVRs typically need to be set up for 4 ohms with a setting in the menu that actually will drop the 4 ohm output.

Murray wanted to add if you seriously consider my last post, you should give a listen to the lower and upper priced choices you come up with. Depending on the models you are looking at there also could be a difference in components used that could have an effect on the SQ. If it is enough you can hear, or enough to justify the cost difference only your ears can decide.

My thoughts exactly and another reason to go with the 05. It's high end gear for a very low price right now as the sale will end soon. The lower end models cannot touch the higher 05/07/09 rather in a standalone or pre/pro setup. You'd have to hear it to understand it. But I agree, nothing wrong with auditioning gear regardless.

++1 for apphd's suggestion although you can get a whole lot of different opinions on the issue. I for one favor the 'what do I need in a processor / AVR" approach teamed with external amp(s). My processor needs are very minimal as I run my video separate from my audio (some don't). I find it MUCH more cost effective to separate the two plus it gives me an edge when technology changes. Amplifier technology is much more stable than video/audio processing and the low-to-mid-line AVR's seem to cover most of the basics. Add a nice 5 or 7 channel amp that will last you through the years and you've spent less than you would have with a mid-top-line AVR. Just make sure you pick one with Pre-IN's and Pre-Outs.

I also like the Pioneer 1018 for that purpose although there are a buch of good ones out there (HK and Marantz come to mind).

Thanks all for you opinions. Since I will be getting an external amp anyways, I appreciate the suggestions of going with a lower cost AVR and putting the $ diff towards the amp. I see Oink has just introduced a new family of receivers with new to the industry features. Hopefully, the will offer pre outs for an external amp.
