I've had my TV (Sony KDF-E50A10) for a couple of years and never really adjusted the settings. Recently, I spent some time on the avsforum and downloaded a few settings that some of the guys there used on my TV. I'm getting some good results, but it's sporadic. There are vast differences between channels. On some channels my settings look great, but on others they suck (usually too dark or not enough color). At this point, I'm not interested in getting my TV professionally calibrated.
What has been your experience with calibrating your TV? How do you set it up so that at least the majority of the channels look decent?
Thanks.

Calibration is great for movies, but using Cinema type calibration for sports, and most any poor quality channels or when ambient lighting is too high is a waste. I try to use a number of presets for the channels I watch most.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

I find myself calibrating my PJ on a regular, and I think Dennis hit the nail on the head. For movie watching calibration is excellent and provide that film like look to the presentation. However for sports/gaming I prefer a more vivid picture as it is dark and can be difficult to see.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!
