No matter what happens with the economy, terrorism etc in the short and long term, its seems that one thing is guaranteed in our future:

More Robots!

Not saying I welcome or oppose this, but here's a link to some pretty cool images. Japan seems to have gone hog-wild with robots in recent years.

Technology. Accept it. I love the idea of gps tags. Kidnap a child, steal an animal... trackable. I am on a hate spree tonight. Some nights, I am all for the eye for an eye philosophy.

As a coincidence, I just caught part of a Discovery Channel special about the work going on in Japan on robots. The program showcased some of the Toyota robots in your link in post #1 that actually perform concerts playing musical instruments and they sound very good. They are also working content matched facial expression for human looking robots. They used an example of a "receptionist" robot seated at a front desk. When you were cordial, the robot's face smiled while responding. Startling or threatening caused expressions of fear, lewd comments disdain, etc., etc. They had about 20 basic facial expressions / reactions nearly perfected.

This is is one of the more interesting robots we use in my high-throughput analytics lab. It's part of an automated ELISA (Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay) platform we had designed and built about a year ago by Caliper LifeSciences in Hopkinton, MA.

Upper management love this stuff when we tell 'em that the robot platforms can run 24/7 and we don't have to pay 'em overtime (or provide benefits)!

Just as long as the robots are built with Asimov's three laws, I'm fine.

The KiNEDx robot is pretty placid...

(we have caught it, late at night, trying to peek under the computer's case, though)

Asimov actually explored quite a few variations of those three laws. He introduced the Law #0 in, if I remember correctly, a robot called R. Daniel Olivo.

Then he started to explore on how to change those laws, to make them more flexible, together with Roger McBride - robot called Kaliban...

You can see that I am a fan of Asimov... lol
