I got the 45rpm version of Ride the Lightning not too long ago. Does sound pretty good, although my system right now's not the best match for it. Definitely the best I've heard the old school Metallica sound.

Sucks that Puppets was in such bad shape, unfortunately it doesn't surprise me that much. The local record store I shop at seems to be about 50/50 when it comes to getting a non-warped new record. Not so much of an issue when I order online, though.

Thats why i like the 180 gram LP's. Have not had a bad one yet.+ they sound better IMHO.

Which version of Puppets did you get then?

They do sound better, whichever way you slice it. The Ride the Lightning is the first 45rpm LP that I've bought. The faster speed does sound better, I was pleasantly surprised. Does kinda suck to have to get up every two songs, take off the clamp, flip the record, redo the clamp, etc etc, though.

Not the 180, Just the standard vinyl. They are holding the 180 for me till tomorrow after work, and i will just pay the diferance in cost. last time i do that. it's worth the extra money imo. i think part of the fun is playing with all of it. unless you have company over of course.

I've got a 180 gram MoP coming in the mail any day now. I gave my new 180 gram Black Album a spin on the weekend and does that ever sound good. I'm only missing Kill 'em All to have all the early Metallica on LP. The Black Album is the transition and I didn't really like much of their stuff after it with Death Magnetic the exception. I have that on 180 gram as well. And Justice For All is pretty much my all time fav.

I know you are on a vinyl spree but thought you may be interested in the remastered version of MOP done by Steve Hoffman. The disc is 24k gold and the sound quality is off the charts compared to the 1986 original. Everything sounds so much cleaner and has alot more depth to it. You can hear things for the first time never heard before in other releases. The sound on the cd is not all mashed up like on the original release. There is a real nice seperation of instruments and each instrument sounds as it should. I can highly recommend this one though it will cost you a pretty penny for it. I got lucky and found mine in mint condition at a local thrift store. You can find used copies for around $60.00-$70.00 and a new unopened copy for about $150.00-$200.00. I have listened to the 180g vinyl version at Plan 9 records here in Richmond and I preferred the Steve Hoffman remaster by a wide margin. This cd is for the true Metallica fan.
