Music hall dac25.2 hookup

Well, in an effort to cheer myself up in light of recent personal issues, i just purchased the Music hall dac25.2 to pair with my Ps3 which i use as a cd player, to help upsample cds and really improve audio for 2 channel. Have been able to get buy hooking up other components in my setup without posting for help despite being a newb, but this is driving me nuts! Currently the ps3 is connected to the pioneer via Hdmi, to input 2 on the receiver. The Music hall offers 4 digital inputs: coax, optical, usb, and xlr. What do i have to do to make this happen? Have tried a few wiring scenarios with no luck. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Why not hook the PS3 directly to the dac then the dac to the receiver?

I'm not familiar with the PS3, but is there an optical out on it?

Yes. Optical out on ps3 to in on dac, audio out on dac via regular RCA to cd in on receiver, no results, might have to mess with ps3 audio settings?

It may only output one thing at a time, RCA, optical, HDMI, etc...

You could pick up a cheap(not too cheap) CDP to use as a transport.

Was thinking the same thing, an all in one CDP, with built in upscaling capabilities, this might just not be worth the aggravation and money.

You can get an inexpensive DVD player to mate with the dac.

Even thought about returning the dac, and maybe picking up the NAD C565BEE, with upsampling, kill two birds with one stone.

Guys, appreciate your help alot. Might just be better off with a dedicated CDP with any features im after all in one unit. Think the NAD unit i mentioned might serve my needs better, and leave the Ps3 for gaming and DVDs'. Im really after awesome 2 channel play, the ps3 doesnt offer much in that respect as far as features go. Thank you!:)

    Hi retro.

If I'm reading this correctly, you have the PS3 connected to the avr via HDMI. The PS3 is also connected to the DAC via optical and RCAs out from the DAC to the avr (in the CD input?). I am assuming that DVDs are playing okay, but you get no sound when you play a CD.

I recommend that you make sure that when playing CDs the CD input (or whatever input you have the RCAs connected to ) on the avr is set to receive analog (not digital or HDMI). Also, make sure you are selecting the CD input on the avr and disabling any default selection of the HDMI input.

If that doesn't work, when you want to play CDs, you might try diconnecting the HDMI cable from the PS3 so that the only output is into the optical going to the DAC. Then, when you want to play a DVD, reconnect the HDMI to the PS3.

Thanks Mike! Yes that is way i have things setup, via HDMI to the ps3, to optical on dac, RCAs' from dac for audio out, to cd input on receiver. I do get audio on cds with this scenario, but none of the upsampling from the dac, 96khz, or 192khz. Think im just sending the same signal through like a merry go round though, through the HDMI. Like your idea, will give it a try!:D

You may have already figured this out, but to make this work on the ps3 you need to go into the sound settings and choose "optical out". When you choose this it no longer outputs sound over the hdmi cable, but it will still send video over it (this is how I have mine hooked up).
